    LETTING THE CAT OUT

we got our cat 3 yrs ago and as we stayed in a flat at the time we kept it as a house cat.
we moved 8 mths ago to a house which has its own gardens, our cat wants to go out everytime the doors are open, just wondering if anyone has been in the same situation and actually let the cat go out.. i am scared incase something happens to her

let it go out, if it doesnt come back your lucky

Put butter on her paws for the first 1 or 2 times, .. be careful if you live on a main road, she won't be used to cars... but if you are on an estate you should be fine.. Cat's like to socialize, but will always remember who feeds her!

let it out it will be fine just stay next to it the first couple of times
and pick it up and walk around with it first to give it some bearins
    they dont usually go far

someone told me that once they are a house cat that they wont want to go out however she trys to get out the windows, we are on a quite estate but i have seen another cat hanging about outside ( must sense something i suppose) is it likely though that they would fight with each other ( my cat is really small)

so does the husband just hope the cat knows where her breads buttered then again, maybe the oh and the cat could go together lol

Both of my cats have been indoors all of thier lives, but one has the idea that she'd like to go out occaisionally. She sometimes gets past us as we are going through the door and she goes about 10 feet from the door and freezes in terror. We then bring her back inside.

She then doesn't try again for a few months.

our cat runs by you when were at the door but we have to chase her as she doesnt even bother. this is most times our door is open she trys this ( hence the reason to let her out) i am just scared that she gets into a fight as she is really small conpared to another other cat ive seen

LOL, mines the same, he never gets past the doorstep before freezing and running back in!

We don't let them out as we moved next to a busy road. They have no road sense at all, and I don't want my pets flattened.

Cats are sooo much better than dogs because:

    1) They are much cleaner animals.
    2) They are much more intelligent I mean you don't ever see a cat play fetch or chase cars.
    3) They are smaller so therefore are cheaper to maintain.
    4) They don't need you to exercise them.
+ many more, get my point??

i live in a flat and had my cat now 3 years i do feel bad sometimes when she is looking out the window at the birds wanting to get out there however i would rather that then her get run over or get killed or hurt by young kids who believe that they are hard and clever by hurting poor defenseless animals

my daughter lived in a flat with her 2 cats for over a year then moved back into our house, the cats were only 18 months when they came here, they were kept in for about 6 weeks then we gradually let them out, with us there all the time, building the time up,now they are fine, they dont go far and as long as the back door is open then they are fine, just takes time, but mine are both males and ones out all the time and the other one will go out when he can be bothered.lol...good luck

let it go out, It wont stray far until it knows where it's goging. Or get a lead and put it on the first few times and walk it outside until you feel happier.

It only lets you think that, it's playing a game of ball with you, not the other way around...... :-D

Ye my cat likes to play but not fetch. It likes me to dangle a long string and move it around like an animal. Then it tries to catch it!.

Whenever it wants to play, it grabs the string in its mouth; brings it to me; drops it at my feet and then mews at me!

Oh I have, kids are horrible and especially cruel, wouldn't trust the little barstools as far as I could throw them. Cats over kids anyday ;-)

    ah bless your cat!

Mine meows at the door .. gets to the bottom of the garden then bolts back in incase Ive locked her out!

Not true. My cat when she was young used to play with a ping pong sized ball. If I was watching the tele she would knock it and chase it up and down the hallway. If I took no notice she would bring it to me and drop it at my feet and talk to me to tell me she wanted to play.

Some cats are cleverer than others. Had another one who was really thick. Not stubbon just thick.

my cat loves to chase bobbles, my little girl just to have loads but now she takes them out and throws them for the cat to chase, which she does and then brings it back. however by the end of the night the bobble is missing never to be seen again. lol
