Lidl adverts always compare the price of branded

shopping at competitors versus their own brand...why not compare Asda own brand versus Lidl own brand?

They do whatever makes them look the best.

    Who wouldn't doesn't ? ffs

or compare with a giraffe like aldi

Most of the Lidl stuff to me especially processed food in tins is equivalent to the value/basic stuff in other supermarkets but that's often cheaper than Lidl's version with colour labels. I don't think the Lidl stuff compares well to the standard supermarket labelling elsewhere. I had a tin of sardines from Lidl in a lovely coloured tin but was actually worse than the basic/value stuff sold elsewhere. Also those weird soups from Europe in tins (spain/italy possibly) with the funny chemical pattern at the top when you open them up. Not a fan of those for sure. The cheap value/basic soups elsewhere are often far nicer and actually look edible and not give you the feeling to urge.

Not a fan of Lidl's quality but have learned what is good for the money and can be excellent value.

I'm not a fan of any processed food in tins. Have you ever watched that eat well for less on BBC? They can hardly ever tell the difference between premium brands and supermarket own labels

Theyre compared to mainstream brands which a lot of people buy rather than supermarket ones

Because the differences between supermarket own branded products isn't as impressive and marked. But if a particular supermarket strikes a deal with various brands, it pays to advertise this because it'll be markedly cheaper than other supermarkets.

Simply untrue - ASDA sells a much wider range and greater volume of their own branded products than Lidl sells of theirs!

They compare their own brands with the leading brands because they believe their own brands are as good as the leading brands, and superior to other supermarket own brands.

which is based on their marketing decision rather than fact.

I prefer Aldi for my fresh fruit and veg but Lidl has excellent frozen meals.

I don't buy process foods apart from baked beinz and mushy peas but these 2 seem be better quality in lidl and aldi than the other stores. but the cola and lemonade in lidl and aldi is drinkable vs asda smart price and tesco equvalinet cola and lemonde tastes like a asprin and paracetamol mixed together I don't even know who buys this as somebody must do if it stills sells it.

everything is relative, id say lidl is going to sell as far higher % of their own brand products than asda is
purely because there are hardly any brands there
comparing on absolute terms and even relative terms doesn't mean much as they are different types of shop

Which ever one it is that has freeway cola it certainly isnt drinkable I'd rather have asda or morrisons and Morrison cloudy lemonade is lovely.

Also i bought cup a soup tonnes of them about six different flavours as they were reduced to 50p a box I've tried 3 so far and think they are pants compared to the basic value brand chicken ones in morrisons Which are 30p a box

(Golden veg, chicken and veg with crutons, and just chicken, still got chicken and leek and mushroom to try).

Personally i dont see much difference between lidl and any other supermarket they tend to have odd things and be more expensive in my view

do u actually like asda smart price cola or there other one next one up.

Absolutely spot on Dave. Been saying this for bloody ages.

Its false perception to believe that Aldi/Lidl are hugely cheaper than the supermarkets because the truth is - they arent.

If you stick to the "value" range at Asda/Tesco (comparable with Aldi/Lidl goods) then there are virtually no savings whatsoever.
Couple with the fact of the long queues and the mediocre customer service at Aldi/Lidl - your worse off by far.
I tried the German supermarkets for a couple of months before i realised and worked it out.
