Life on Mars... The new series......

Er not quite, just the typical unimaginative americans leaching our best shows.....

"ABC Studios, David E. Kelley Productions, 20th Century Fox Television, and Kudos Productions are co-producing the remake of BBC drama Life on Mars. Sam Tyler (Jason O'Mara) is a detective from the 21st century that travels back in time to the 1970's after a car accident. Tyler clashes with new boss Gene Hunt (Colm Meaney) who doesn't take his coming from the future seriously. He finds a friend in one of the few female detectives Annie Cartwright (Rachelle Lefevre). Tyler ends up working on a case involving a serial killer which may have something to do with his girlfriend's kidnapping in the present."

They are going to murder a great series again aren't they.

I'm glad the US versions of The IT Crowd and The Vicar of Dibley were cancelled before they made it to screen..

I'm keeping an open mind but somehow I see this turning into Starsky and Hutch considering the era...... Have to say I do like The Office US...... Shame ours only lasted for 2 series.

As I said in the previous thread, we don't have to watch it and it isn't designed to suit our sense of humor, just like the Manchester-setting wasn't designed to suit US audiences. Maybe we should just get over it and accept that the amazingly talented creators of LOM are able to make some more well-earned money from it by selling it to the States.

Heh, I don't believe that one bit.

You could, arguably, have said that Ashes to Ashes did that... although I quite enjoyed that too. FIRE UP THE QUATTRO!!

Have to say I wasn't overly impressed with A2A. But then I did make the mistake of watching it weekly rather than waiting. I will get around to a marathon session at some point......

Well the pilot epsiode is pretty good, was expecting it to be a typical rubbish remake but I enjoyed it. It was (from what I remember) practically a scene by scene remake, and the actors played pretty good parts (oh and Annie is better on the eye too )

However that could all change by air date as its ran into trouble already

Life on Mars US remake stalls in productionAn American remake of the BBC … Life on Mars US remake stalls in productionAn American remake of the BBC time-travelling police drama Life on Mars is in jeopardy, as cast and crew leave and executives ditch the series's pilot episode. The original British version already has a cult following in the States following a run on BBC America, and the ABC network had high hopes for their adaptation, in which the action is transported to a politically incorrect and male-dominated Los Angeles police force, circa 1972.However since filming the pilot, the show's executives have elected to start again and move the show to New York, scene of iconic 1970s movies such as Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, and Shaft. The show's writer-producer David E Kelley, who is behind hit TV series including Ally McBeal, is reported to have quit and major changes to the cast are also rumoured. The Los Angeles Times said: "The series has already suffered an exceptionally bumpy ride into the future, even by the Alice in Wonderland standards of television programme development."The show's US pilot features actors Colm Meaney as the foul-mouthed, no-nonsense DCI Gene Hunt, and fellow Irishman Jason O'Mara as Sam Tyler, the modern detective flung back to the harsher policing culture of the 1970s.Meaney is known in Britain for his roles in Star Trek: The Next Generation and most recently the comedy film Three and Out, which drew criticism for dealing with the subject of suicides on the London Underground. O'Mara is an RSC actor who has recently broken into US television.Kelley has not yet publicly commented on what caused him to walk out. However the BBC show's co-creator Matthew Graham said: "It's been an incredibly convoluted journey. They took on a big job and there were different opinions on where to go. It's been a tortuous procees."American networks have a chequered record for adapting hit UK shows. Although NBC's version of The Office has been well-received, attempts at translating Cracker and Coupling for US audiences have been less successful.

I'm going to watch it later ;-) Had a quick skim and it does appear a bit over acted.
