List of Countries Non-EU citizens travelling from the UK will have to pay to visit the EU from November 2023.

Posted 21st Feb 2023
As i posted about previously, back in May 2022, here, Travellers from the UK will have to pay to visit as EU will have a new visa system, which is being introduced for all UK travellers Called the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) from November 2023.

The full list of Countries has now been announced, where you'll have to pay the €7 fee per person.

Firstly, a little insight on what ETIAS is, and how it's come about.

Q&A

Why now?

The UK is now considered a 'third-country' and can travel to the EU without a travel authorization until the ETIAS is launched in 2023. The ETIAS requirement for British travellers was confirmed by the EU in 2019.

Who will need one?

Anyone aged between of 18 and 70 years old.

How much will it cost?

€7 fee per person

How long will they be valid for?

The fee doesn’t have to be paid every time you enter an EU country. The waiver lasts for three years, so you only have to get a new one either once it runs out or if you get a new passport

"UK nationals are required to have a valid ETIAS travel authorisation if they travel to any of the European countries requiring ETIAS for a short-term stay (90 days in any 180-day period).

"UK nationals who wish to stay longer must meet the entry requirements in accordance with national or EU migration law, such as holding a visa or residence permit.

What are the VISA Checks for?

The system will cross-check travellers against EU information systems for internal security, borders and migration before their trip, helping to identify ahead of time people who may pose a risk to security or health, as well as compliance with migration rules

When they are required, is there a timeframe we will need to submit them?

They must be applied for before travelling and can be completed online, with Brits needing to complete it at least 96 hours before departure.

Applying for an ETIAS online will be easy and fast, since it will not take more than ten minutes to complete and only requires a valid travel document. Once granted, the ETIAS visa waiver will be valid for a period of three years and will be a multiple-entry permit, meaning that it would cover any trips within its validity period.

Will i still have to pay City Tax? (Depending where you stay)

Yes (rates vary)

Is ETIAS a new thing?

For the UK, yes! but it It also applies to passport-holders of plenty of other countries around the world, from the USA, Canada, Brazil, Japan, Australia and many more. You can see a full list of ETIAS countries here.

Just a heads up

There's likely going to be an increase in scam/fake pages, phishing, smishing (yes that's a thing) for the likes of ETIAS Visas so please be careful and don't click on anything unsure of.

Citizens Advice have some good information on how to check if something might be a scam

Why is it a mess? We voted for increased Passport control as an obvious consequence of leaving . With this system it will be electronic - simplifies the whole business of getting stamps and all that. Exactly like the Canadian & USA ESTA and it's only 7Euro. Big step forward.

No different than the US ESTA.

90 days on any rolling 180-day period, combining holiday trips and business stays will be fun.
Pedro, Hans, Sten and Xavier are already jockeying in pole positions for this 4 month IT consultancy job in EUrope. (edited)

Considering the visa costs to enter other countries this is nothing.

Everyone needs one, not everyone is charged for one. There’s a difference.

Good job. At the moment every trip to Europe is filling at least half a visa page with stamps (and they usually use a new page each time; a passport with no blank visa pages is often considered not valid for travel) so my passport would have been full long before it's expiry date. Three ETIAS are much cheaper than a repacement passport when it's full!

Your passport will still be stamped upon travel

Considering the length of time it lasts, why are people complaining.

Even if you had to renew yearly, it's less than a cost of the average pint
    Yas_Min's avatar
You should reference Soy Lattes and not pints if you want to hit the complainers demographic
