As i posted about previously, back in May 2022, here, Travellers from the UK will have to pay to visit as EU will have a new visa system, which is being introduced for all UK travellers Called the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) from November 2023.
The full list of Countries has now been announced, where you'll have to pay the €7 fee per person.
Firstly, a little insight on what ETIAS is, and how it's come about.
Q&A
Why now?
The UK is now considered a 'third-country' and can travel to the EU without a travel authorization until the ETIAS is launched in 2023. The ETIAS requirement for British travellers was confirmed by the EU in 2019.
Who will need one?
Anyone aged between of 18 and 70 years old.
How much will it cost?
€7 fee per person
How long will they be valid for?
The fee doesn’t have to be paid every time you enter an EU country. The waiver lasts for three years, so you only have to get a new one either once it runs out or if you get a new passport
"UK nationals are required to have a valid ETIAS travel authorisation if they travel to any of the European countries requiring ETIAS for a short-term stay (90 days in any 180-day period).
"UK nationals who wish to stay longer must meet the entry requirements in accordance with national or EU migration law, such as holding a visa or residence permit.
What are the VISA Checks for?
The system will cross-check travellers against EU information systems for internal security, borders and migration before their trip, helping to identify ahead of time people who may pose a risk to security or health, as well as compliance with migration rules
When they are required, is there a timeframe we will need to submit them?
They must be applied for before travelling and can be completed online, with Brits needing to complete it at least 96 hours before departure.
Applying for an ETIAS online will be easy and fast, since it will not take more than ten minutes to complete and only requires a valid travel document. Once granted, the ETIAS visa waiver will be valid for a period of three years and will be a multiple-entry permit, meaning that it would cover any trips within its validity period.
Will i still have to pay City Tax? (Depending where you stay)
Yes (rates vary)
Is ETIAS a new thing?
For the UK, yes! but it It also applies to passport-holders of plenty of other countries around the world, from the USA, Canada, Brazil, Japan, Australia and many more. You can see a full list of ETIAS countries here.
Just a heads up
There's likely going to be an increase in scam/fake pages, phishing, smishing (yes that's a thing) for the likes of ETIAS Visas so please be careful and don't click on anything unsure of.
