Rimantas Sadzius, Lithuania’s finance minister, hailed the moment as “the final step in Lithuania’s integration into the western world” that began 10 years ago with its entrance into Nato and the EU.

Don't think it will be a shock to Putin been going to happen for a long time

Putin puts out?

I don't understand why they allow useless former soviet countries into the EU but won't allow Turkey in - a country with huge potential.

Because Europe is a Christian white mans club. Turkey is not wearing the right religion to be allowed in!

Whats more important is you go out for newyear with a pocket of litas say "Laimingų Naujųjų metų" and then you have to buy your drinks in Euros!

Can't wait for turkey to join us.

But welcome to Lithuania, they have fit women.

Why would Lithuania joining the Euro (the currency) affect how many Lithuanian's come to live/work in the UK? They've had the right to do this since joining the EU in 2004.

Scare mongering muppets.

As a EU member state they could work here legally since 2004.

Christian?
I'd like to see the facts to back that up.
Even in the UK parliament with approx ' 650 MP's and only 10% of them are Christians, the rest act like devil-worshippers.
It's more likely the Turks aren't getting in because they're failing in devil-worshipping.

Scare mongering?
That's what Gordon Brown and his crowd were always saying, but the facts proved the so-called scare mongers were actually right.

I'm quite happy to let the facts continue to do the talking, and the facts are a great many more doors are set to be opened in 2015 and it all points to a massive surge in the numbers of Lithuanians heading here.

Oh, and you'd better keep the doors open for the rest of the former Soviet Bloc western-wannabe's - especially our newest pals - the neo-nazis from Ukraine.

P.S. btw I have no problem with decent people coming here, I welcome them with open arms.
Have a nice new year, Paddy, and God bless.

Yeah I am pretty sure her majesty is the defender of the faith. I am also pretty certain that the Christian raids from Europe into Asia through Turkey did happen. I am also pretty certain that we only deal with Turkey as it is the best stepping stone in to all that lovely oil in the middle east nations.

I am sure that my comment was highlighting the racism that we still have in today's modern Europe but satire may not be your strong point.

Europe has a rich Christian culture, especially as numerous saints, martyrs and popes were European themselves. All of the popes from 741 to 2013 were from Europe.[5] Europe brought together many of the Christian holy sites and heritage and religious centers. Just a little passage from Wikipedia, got a huge article on there for you to read with plenty of facts.

I'm happy to support our Queen (God bless Her) but 'Defender of the Faith' was and is nothing more than a 'title' - it doesn't make the bearer a Christian and it certainly doesn't prove that the population are all Christians.

The 'Christian' raids you refer to - probably the so-called 'crusades' - would that be the ones where someone on the verge of losing control of a region (and thus the wealth and power) summoned a bunch of rich folk to help him get it back - including someone parading as a religious leader because he had a religious 'title'?

You know as well as I do that people's actions speak louder than their words, and throughout history we have seen people of all religions acting in ways far removed from what their religion requests of them.

You might be right about some sort of 'club' scenario, but I not too sure it's 'whites' only and I'm fairly certain it's definitely not Christian.

P.S. I noticed the satire, and I agree with the point made re extant racism - thus no need to address it.

Europe certainly had a rich Christian culture in some senses ie buildings, art, ceremony etc but in other probably more important Christian requirements such as being fair, being forgiving and being humble (Micah 6:8 ) - history shows it extremely lacking.

With Rome ruling the roost (not even going into the 'Pentarchy' debate) it's hardly surprising Europe had a few Saints (Rome idea of Saint differs from others) and martyrs (many being Protestant - why were they protesting against Rome?), and Popes - nepotism much?
Again though, look at their actions not their words - did they act like Christians or were they Christian in name only?

Wikipedia is excellent, but it's not absolute.
The Holy Bible is clear on what is expected of Christians, and European history testifies to the fact that Europe - and indeed everywhere in the world has been sadly lacking in Christians.

What it comes down to is 'we know a person's God by that person's actions - if they are good, they worship a good God, if they are bad, they worship a bad God'.

The Holy Bible tells us God is good, but all too often Europe was anything but 'good'.
