Liverpool agree £25million transfer deal for Chamakh!!

Marouane Chamakh has agreed to join Liverpool in a £25million deal the club hope will signal their transfer intent.

The highly rated striker is wanted by Arsenal, Juventus, Inter Milan and West Ham, but the Reds have stolen a march by offering a big money pre-contract agreement they expect the player to sign before the end of the month.

Bordeaux striker Chamakh is out of contract at the end of the season, and he signaled his intent to wait for a move until the summer, when he can command a massive signing on fee, in the absence of a transfer fee.

That has put off Arsenal, who were hoping to tempt the Morocco international to come to north London during the current transfer window, by paying a small fee to his French club

I would say hes seen this Liverpool have beaten off their rivals by securing the signature of striker Marouane Chamakh for £25m. Arsenal, Inter Milan and Juventus were all after the Bordeaux man, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

I cant see why they would pay £25mil for a player who would be free in a few months ????

If he is valued at £25mil, his current situation would mean his transfer fee would be greatly reduced (£5-£10 mil) ??

Supposedly includes a £12m signing on fee. Without meaning to sound patronising that's absolute horse ****. £12m on a signing on fee? Newspaper reporters are getting lazy.

Right, I think it works out like this:

Initial 12mill signing on fee then with wages, works out at 25mil over five years….

They won't get him for that much, anybody in their right mind would pay alot less or wait till summer

They just need another 7 players now , oh and a new manager

Liverpool should invest £25m on hiring someone who can sign quality players for half the price that the idiot Benitez likes to offer. Liverpool (save for Torres) have made some AWFUL transfer mistakes.

so have Utd, and usually Liverpool's failed signings are for a fraction of what Utd's are

That is a crazy price as he's not proven at the top level . Didn't Torres cost £28m ?

I think he will sign a pre-contract agreement with us, but I can't see that there would be a £12m signing-on fee.

It's in the Liverpool Echo now that it's been denied by the club, and the Echo is normally pretty reliable (a hundred times more so than the Mirror :whistling:)

Berbatov will come good. An example of the inflated transfer market. Never was he worth in the region of £35m. Especially when a couple of transfer markets previous you had players like Henry and Van Nistelrooy going for less than £15m.

Berbatov is sheer quality.

no Torres was around the £20 mil mark ((and an amazing steal at that price), plus its signing on fees etc not a transfer fee

El Zhar, Voronin, Crouch, Keane, Ngog, Insua, Skrtel, Babel, Riera, Plessis, Dossena and Degen.

Ferguson has not made a poor signing (save for Tosic, possibly) for a while. Berbatov is a great signing at a bad price.

I beg you not to mention Nani. Utter rubbish.

But Henry and Van Nistlerooy went for that price because they were coming to the end of their contracts and were getting on a bit as well (plus I think both had kinda fallen out with their manager).

Berbatov is 29 in two weeks - surely if he hasnt come good by this age he aint gona. Hes had a couple of seasons at utd now and hes not good enough. No way was he worth the money, and you wont recoup much on sale either

have to agree that berb is a good player, but overpriced as said, he would get into any premiership team front 2

Tevez scores a few goals and then you think that goalscoring determines quality. His dry spell will come, trust me.

Rooney and Berbatov are lethal. Teams in this day and age do not have two prolific goalscorers in their team. One plays off the other.

Ah well, look at the bright side, we could have re-signed Owen...........

I think that their price tags were a snip due to their quality.

I have said that he was not worth the money. The only Premiership players that are worth £35m (for what the do) are Rooney and Torres. It pains me to say this but Torres is just unbelievable.

Berbatov was not a prolific goalscorer at Spurs. What he offers to a game is composure and the ability to hold a ball up whilst other players catch up with the game. That is why he plays just off of Rooney He is quality but he will never score 30+ goals a season in the Premiership with Manchester United.

Ive watched Barbaflop many many times this season he has maybe 3 good passes in him per game, if you think thats good enough then thats fine, I personally think he isnt very good. If his workrate was something to write home about that would be a different matter but he makes Adebayor look like Usain Bolt !

...you wont get a better signing than Owen who is willing to sit on the bench and take his opportunity.

The goal against City is enough in itself to merit his inclusion in a squad.

:?

El Zhar, Voronin, Plessis and Degen were all signed on frees (Voronin was sold for a profit, the others probably will be too)
Crouch was sold for a profit
Keane we lost two million on. It didn't work out. It happens.
Ngog cost just over £1m - he's doing pretty well IMO
Insua was signed in a swap deal for Paletta (who originally cost £2m) - he's now an Argenitna international.
Skrtle is out of form at the moment, but is a good 3rd choice Centre half
Babel - looks like we'll lose about £1m on him - not the end of the world.
Riera - cost £8m but injured a lot. Is probably 1st choice for LW when fit.
Dossena - lost a fair bit on him, and was a mistake (more of a LWB / LW than LB).

Poorest signings by Benitez IMO have been Pennant and Kyriagkos. Morientes never worked out at the time, but no one could have predicted that, after the couple of seasons he'd had beforehand.

That is something that you just cannot change. Shame. He has the quality. I wouldnt have signed him when you can get someone else for maybe that little bit extra. Still, it is something we have to deal with. When he is on form he is amazing. When he is...

Ngog is good (will be a big player in a couple of years), Crouch is a good player as well (wish we hadnt sold him). Insua and Skrtel are international defenders who are going through a bad patch of form but are good players. The others have a lot to prove agreed.

Fergie has made some shocking purchases:

Hargreaves £18 mil ish - hardly played a game in years
Nani - £20 mil - a light weight show pony
Anderson - £20 mil - no way near good enough, on a par with Lucas at Liverpool but different transfer fees paid
David Bellion - £2 mil - dont make me laugh
~Djemba - Djemba - £3 mil - worst player ever in clubs history?
Klberson - £6 mil - whatever happened to him?
Alan Smith - £6 mil striker turned into midfeilder - last seen struggling in the Championship
Michael Carrick - £19 mil - never worth that in a million years

It does not matter if they are signed on frees, you still have to pay their wages...

Dont get me wrong, the have made some good signings. Benayoun and Kuyt. Trouble is that these are far outweighed by bad signings. I have a lot of time for Benayoun. He is a class player. Still, I think United should offer £60m for Torres. :w00t:
