he will walk i think (juventus)

Being up for sale is good.

Being up for sale for a reported £500m - £600m isn't so good.

I'm not so certain if Rafa will go or not. The chinese consortium who are interested only want in if Rafa stays.

i will start the bidding at £1

if he doesnt walk either they will stick with him and liverpool might have a bad season or he will get a nice big payout

Too early to celebrate but glad to see those snake oil salesmen state they are going to sell.

I'll believe it when it happens.

They're the choices :-D

I'm undecided tbh - this is the first poor season we've had under him, and I wouldn't be against him having one more season... if he was willing to learn from his mistakes from this season.

i think he needs to go personally, i dont think players support him 100% for example when he subbed torres a few weeks ago, gerrard just looked at him(rafa) and shook his head

Looking back now though, it was quite possibly the right decision. Torres has gone back to Spain this morning for further tests on his knee, and might be ruled out for the rest of the season. He's obviously had this problem for a while.

If he hadn't been taken off against Birmingham, whats to say that he wouldn't have done more damage during that game, and then missed the Benfica 2nd leg (in which his two goals got us through).

Possibly

Mourinho and Roy Hodgson (possibly Capello, if he leaves the England job this summer) are the only people I'd like to takeover if Benitez does go this summer.

I think Mourinho will get his wish of having Gerrard playing for him next season one way or another, be it with Inter or at Anfield.

I think Ian Dowie may become available in the Summer too... :whistling:

i think gerrard will go either way , will be a big loss to liverpool if he does goes

Given his past buys I can't imagine why anyone would hand Rafa any large sums of money again. His time is done, simple.

Liverpool should go old school and get Hodgson and get back to being a great British club with mainly British players and staff

I think it would be great to recoup some cash for Gerrard while we can.

He's 30 this year, way past his best (done nothing at all this season), and if someone offered £30 mil for him, they would be silly to turn it down imo.

How do you know that :?

£30m is a lot of money for a 30-year-old, but he's our best player. If the Americans are going this summer, we might not be in a situation where we need to sell to buy (especially at the levels of Gerrard / Mascherano / Torres) - if that's the case I wouldn't sell him just because he's had his first below-par season in the last 7/8 years.

Some people have short memories.... he single-handedly carried us for years and years, and now you'd be happy to sell him, regardless of if he wants to go or not :?

If he puts in a transfer request, that's a different matter all together then......

IF we sell, still an IF. The club that is.

I would hope the injection of cash, find few key players boom, back in to champions league following season, and competiting for first place.

We should be aiming for all cups, seems this year we didn't really want any.

We shouldn't have to sell anyone, neither should any of them really want to go, except Riera.

If Rafa stays we need more positive play from him, even Lucas looks good going forward.

Yes - if a player isnt performing (not just for 1/2 games - but for 18 months now) - he gets sold; simple.

Gerrard is not our best player - Torres & Reina are by far superior in terms of match changing players.

£30mil for a 30 year old - I'll carry him there myself

On the other hand, we still need rid of LOTS of deadwood (Insua, Babel etc).

We need a massive investment, new owners, complete squad overhaul (f*** the stadium til the team is sorted), and Mouriniho as manager :-D

Basically, what you're saying is;

You need Manchester United!! (thats where Mourinho will end up one day)

Unless a wealthy Arab takes them over in the current climate I can't see anyone throwing large amounts of cash at any football club these days. Look at the expenditure of the top 3 this year and you can see everyone is pulling in the strings.

If you do get a new buyer then around £30 million is all you are going to get invested initially, unfortunately £30 million is not going to be anywhere near enough to get Liverpool back to the top 3.

Like Adam said - we need a few players, not a complete overhaul.

A keeper to replace Cavalieri, a left back (or two, if Insua goes to Villareal), a right-winger (who can also play on the left), and possibly a back-up striker (depends if Kuyt / Babel are still here or not).

I'd rather go for a direct winger than a big-name striker tbh - 4-2-3-1 seems to be the way to go, so if we could bring in a right winger who can also play up front in Torres' absence (we've got Jovanovic for the left) that would do me.

£30m, plus the sales of Benayoun, Riera and Insua would probably leave us with £50m (and wouldn't have really affected the squad).

GK - Reina, ??
LB - ??, ??
CB - Carragher, Skrtle
CB - Agger, Kyrgiakos
RB - Johnson, Kelly
CM - Mascherano, Lucas
CM - Aquilani, ??
AM - Gerrard, Pacheco
LF - Babel, Jovanovic
RF - ??, Rodriguez
CF - Torres, Kuyt

2 first team players needed, along with three possible squad players. I'm in two minds over Babel and Kuyt tbh, but I think this would leave us with (on paper, at least) a very good squad.

We'd also need to look at buying English players to fill some of these positions, due to the new rules.

its the same squad that came second last year...

Id be happy if rafa stays, if we get bought for the 600 million tht is being suggested, we will have a nice wee transfer budget, rafa has had one bad season its not enough to sack him for. If he walks thats a different thing. Id be happy with Mourinho or Blanc if Rafa did leave

And that same squad would never come second again in the next hundred years.

I cannot believe that some still want Rafa to stay and spend more money given his past buys, it truly amazes me.

I do still back him when he plays euro football.

Premier league with the squad we have isn't that strong.

If he has more money I think Rafa can make some key buys.

Fact is he's still one of the best in the world despite not winning the premiership yet, he has won a champions league and got us two nearly. Not even Wengers done that, and he's still at Arsenal.

He may be rated as one of the best in the world but that isn't good enough to win the premiership anymore, you need to be the best.

I admit that he seems to have a great knack in Europe but at the end of the day the Euro cups are a bit of a lottery with draws etc. In the league is where it counts and here he fails year in year out. He'd be in the lower half of the worlds top 20 managers IMO.

He has spent far too much money and bought (and sold) far too many players to ever be regarded as one of the best IMO.

To be fair the spending figures spouted around are usually complete crap.

He took on a squad that was far weaker then the one he has now. I think he's done well, how long did it take sir Red nose to get to where he is now?

I'd happily give him one more season, had some smart buys this year. I think he will pull off some more with an increased budget.

He's a great tactician, but that's also his downfall - his main aim most of the time seems to be to stop the opposition from playing, rather than let us play - it works in Europe against the big teams who he can analyse in detail, but not so well against the smaller teams.

all we need now is for Mourinho to announce he is taking over from Rafa and all will be great again at anfield
