Liverpool & Manchester United fans plan joint protest against American ownership

Liverpool and Manchester United fans are set to co-operate in launching a joint protest against each club's American ownership, according to a report from The Manchester Evening News.

United fans' Green and Gold protest against the Glazer family's ownership at Old Trafford has won some grudging support from Liverpool fans equally disgruntled with the handling of their club by George Gillett and Tom Hicks.

Whether the plans come to fruition remains to be seen.

its a bit late for that now

Why not blame the people that sold it to the Americans, they are to blame most IMO.

So what exactly is the point? I'm sure the owners are aware that the debt they've put on the club isn't popular.

Why not focus on the greedy monkeys that sold the clubs for a fortune and couldn't give a damn about state the clubs finances would be in as a result. (That wont make a difference either, but at least there would be a point to it!)

Well, we do. Liverpool supporters have asked David Moores time and time again to come out and give us his reasons for selling the club to the American's. When he did sell up, he assured every fan that he was selling the club to the best out there and that they would continue 'The Liverpool Way'.

This, over time has proved not to be the case, and he's been asked to come out and tell us the reasons. Is it because they offered the most money? Or is it because the American owners have actually gone back on the promises they made to him when purchasing the club?

It doesn't make any difference to the actual situation we find ourselves in, for both clubs, but it's nice to know what has actually made us come to this point.

Crying about people who have invested in their club. Pathetic.

I think that's a bit unfair to most Liverpool fans, suggesting they can't work out something so simple:-D

Football should not be about money. Should be about skill and being a team.

I want them to bring in a capping system like rugby.

they havnt invested - thats the whole point

They have racked up huge amounts of debt borrowing against the clubs as assets, all the income that the clubs generate is used to pay off the interest on the debt

    Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

I wouldnt start protesting too much until they find someone willing to pump £1billion into each club.

Because of studpid tansfer costs and wages, football is becoming to expensive. Even to watch it on sky is about £45 a month ( I will have to check this as i am not sure)

Fifa could impose it, it would affect all football associations then.

Could lead to a break away league being set up?

So rather than suggesting something real that is unworkable, you're suggesting a hypothetical system that is even more unworkable.

How about rather than money, football operates on a system of lovehearts?

Dont you worry about Manchester City Football club, we arent in £800million of debt and even if 'the arabs' pull out we wont be, at worst we'll have to sell our superstars and be back to square one.

It was sort of making sense until this part.

Apart from Given I don't think you have one player that the big 3 would snap up. You do not have any superstars.

Please lets not turn this into another thread about City and jealousy of our vast resources, lets stick to discussing the very real and serious problem of the HUGE debts of Stretford, and less so at Liverpool. The scousers are of course in more immediate danger, they have a new stadium they want to find and if they dont get champions league this season it might just all start crumbling. To go on about 'what will happen if arabs pull out' is ridiculous, any club is in trouble if the investors pull out.

    Lovehearts.

    Who says it is unworkable?

Ambitious? Yes. Unworkable seems to negative, as if it can not be done.

But as the others are stating, the money is going to continue to go up (players wages, transfers, etc) and fans will pay the price for it.

Not matter how much I hate them, Man u were one of the biggest club in the world. But last season they had to sell their best player for a recording breaking price just make a profit.

So, since these owners took over, they haven't spent any money on transfers or increased the players wages etc?

The premiership is built on rich folk wanting a toy, everyone is happy enough when they are spending money and improving the teams, when they stop spending, they are vilified.

The bubble is bursting on the EPL - I'm surprised it's taken so long.

The club is owned by a very very rich man who makes his resources available to the club, hence our accelerated spending, its not that difficuly to grasp. As I say, lets stick to the problems your 'big' clubs have instead of the ones mine dont

Liverpool had a revenue of £135 million last year, thats where the money for players and wages has come from

David Moores sold Liverpool because he could put the amounts of money into the club required to improve the team to title contenders and to build the stadium. The Americans have not invested any money, if you look at the amounts we spent under Moores and the Yanks and take into account the inflation of player prices etc we havnt increased expenditure

Not really, I take great pleasure in watching Stretford crumble, they have had a financial stranglehold over the premiership for many many years, Liverpool I couldnt really give a toot about. HUGE debts in the classic 'one rule for them'.

Manchester City are rising, you can continue to laugh and deny the obvious but its happening, please stay on topic.

Well thats really sad, even as a Liverpool supporter I take no pleasure in other clubs and good competition undergoing problems even if It was your club and when it eventually pops the money bubble which were are all expecting it does (hope it doesn't it makes things more competative).

I have never denied Manchester City are improving, so are tottenham villa and everton, it's your visions of grandure. Even if some how Man city get to the top flight places and champions league, they will not fight for the title for years, by then other clubs situations will have changed. If I fancy anyhow atm beating us (Liverpool) to a champions league spot its Tottenham.

How the heck is spouting crap like you do any different from me saying my piece.
