I know this is a stupid question , but Ive just had a boot sale and have loads of penies , 5 p , etc .
They don't come up to a pound or round figure but there is a lot - I want to deposit it at barclays , but do I just take it to the counter - do they count it , weigh it , ???? D o they allow this type of deposit ?

Or do you just wait untill you have round figures to the pound , £5 ?

does your local tesco/asda have a coin deposit machine that changes it into notes?

you can just put them all into a machine in asda and it will give you notes back

loads of pennies /change at home

They don't come up to a pound

:?

Seperate them into types of coin, count them, bag them & label them

you might want to inspect the 20p pieces lol

sorry , what i meant was that the little bags you get for change for the bank state that you need for eg bronze to the sum of £1 in 1p or 2p - the totals I have are odd numbers eg £3.67

If I remember correctly, HSBC are the only bank that have a 'Coinstar' kind of machine. This machine doesnt cost the 7% or whatever Coinstar costs.

If you want to pay them in, the next time you go to your bank, ask for some money bags, then you put in about a £1 in each bag.

When you take it to the bank, they will then weigh it.
Hope this helps :thumbsup:

just go to tescos as the large stores have change machines where you dump the whole lot in and they count it for you and give you notes etc

If it doesn't come up to a whole £1, do the right thing and give it to a charity collector in the street or in the charity collection pots at Tescos. Good deed for the day!

:?

So you have under 20 5ps?

take them to coinstar in a supermarket

Oh and with the 67p or whatever, just seperate 20p in each bag, that should be fine.

do 3 x £1 & 1 x 0.67 but put labels on the values that aren't what they should be

You have to put a certain amount of each denomination into seperate bags ie. £5 worth of 5p's.

There was a post on this yesterday.

Or take to Asda dump it in the machine, I think it takes 5 or 8% (but it goes to charity)

ahh so its ok just to label them is it ?
cool

Just take them to your bank, and deposit them or change them.

If they don't allow you to, start another thread, i'm sure HUKD'ers can solve your problem.

Jeez!!!

Yeah, just write the values on a bit of paper & stick it in the bag with the coins

Precisely. It states this on most moneybags:

1p = £1
2p = £1
5p = £5
10p = £5
20p = £10
50p = £10
£1 = £20
£2 = £20

Taa daa. But I would think the bank would exchange your money. Surely they would have a coin sorter! Hell, even our Spar has a coin sorter for sorting the change from the self-service tills at the end of the night. Set the bag/jar/bucket of cash on the desk and let the bank sort it :P

Bad things to use. They take a pretty substancial cut, and coin to note conversion is something you can do for free at your bank.

Just spend them. Wouldnt be worth taking part bags to a bank. In any case I think that some banks limit the amount of shrapnel you can pay in and they arent even obliged to chang it if you havent got an account with them.

nikkib123;5654539

Doesn't matter they weight them anyway.

They possibly do but then they have still got to spent time making them up to full bags to give out to businesses etc.

do the right thing and give it all to a charity. My coin bottle is huge, easily holds over £60 atm, which will all be going to a charity soon. Checked all the 20p's which took ages, nothing there though

Original Poster

well , just been to barclays and it was no problem lol

all she did was weigh the bags and it tells her how much it is - all you need to do is get those little bags , but you must put the same denomination of coin in one bag , it doesnt matter how much you put in it even if it isnt the £!/ £5 etc amount - simple as that - then the money is credited to your account

thanks to all who replied

Haha I thought their job at the bank was dealing with money??:roll:

Haha -it is. But not to stand all day counting and exchanging peoples change when it is not part of a banking transaction. Fair enough if it is being used to pay a bill or being paid into an account but not if it is simply to change it into notes. Why should they? They dont make any monet from doing this. If they do do it,it is as a favour and they are not under any obligation to do so.
