    Loft Conversion

I currently live in a 3 bed terraced corbett design and planning on getting the loft converted (dormer with 2 beds and a bath). I have had a couple of specialists round who are giving me a price near £35000 excluding plans/structural plans/building control. These roughly cost an extra £1500 altogether. However, the only thing I am concerned about is finding a good and reliable specialist. I have seen and heard negative comments about some builders and do not want to proceed with dodgy builders. 2 companies that have visited are LoftLife based in Eltham and LoftWorld Enfield. Obviously the "surveyors" looked professional however I am sure all the dodgy ones do too. Would you say these companies listed above are reputable and decent. If not, are there any other good loft specialists in London that you are aware of. Thanks in advance

You will be hard pushed to find someone who will be prepared to give negative comments for the companies you have quoted on social media for fear of being sued.
Take a look at what Citizens Advice has to say:-
Consumer >Before you get building work done

You will have done already much of what they say. Collapse each "+" sign and follow up where appropriate on the links provided. At some stage you will end up accessing little known websites that have records of good builders in your area.

Thanks for your comment. I have also heard that about negative comments being deleted. Will have a look at the link. Thanks again

Have a walk down your street have a look if someone has had the same sort of work done and ask them if they are pleased with work done if yes get builders details

Agree with the above last comment about walking around your local area doing "loft spotting" and then just knock on the door. Also consider visiting your local planning department (you may be able to search online) and look at the building regs applications recently submitted for loft conversions and then go and take a look at the properties in question and again chat to the owners for feedback.

ask your friends and family if they know someone who has had it done and at what price.
that's what we do , plus sure they will explain everything to you

I am also looking at some building work being undertaken. I have been watching the cowboy builders TV programme and Dominic recommends checking builders listed on fmb.org.uk. this is the federation of Master builders. I hope that helps. I also would agree that you should see the builders last few jobs to get an idea from his previous customers as to what you are getting yourself involved with.
