LONG SHOT - any gas engineers know the Ariston Euro Combi SX 20 ?

    Hi

If anyone knows the Ariston euroCombi SX20 MFFICE gas boiler can they post here.

I need some advise about a DHW problem that has me stumped.

All the local Corgi / GasSafe people round here claim never to have come across this boiler before.

Oh and I am a mechnical engineeer by profession and the problem is not gas side related - I think

    TIA

    Hit it with a Hammer

The British Gas engineers have them all on their lappy so hopefully someone here will have some info for you.

    What is the problem exactly?

when the hot water is turned on it runs hot (normal temp) for maybe 15-20 seconds then starts to run colder - way less than hand hot but not totally cold.

    hope that makes sense.

Does the pressure remain the same?
I'm not a heating engineer but I do industrial heating systems so have a bit of knowlege of the domestic side.

Yes pressure remaings the same as far as I can tell.

Also the divertor valve and DHW H/E were replaced about 18 months ago.

I have also replaced teh DHW thermostat as I thought this was the most likely cause.

    thanks

Does the boiler still remain lit when the water cools down?
I personally hate combis, so much can go wrong with them.

    Just tried it again

same symptom water starts out really hot then reduces to luke warm

divertor valve does lift and pump pressure valve operates

    gas burners remain on

I'm stumped, ask again on here.

Hope you manage to sort it out soon.

i had an ariston fitted a few weeks ago ( not the same model) unlike my previous wickess combi which ran hot water constantly - if slowly, the ariston does exactly what you describe. if i want to fill a bath now i can fill it quickly with two thirds warm water - then i have to fill it slowly with hot by slowing the flow from the tap.
looks like thats the way they work - its actually better cos i can fill a deep bath much quicker. : )

Weak pump or blocked heat exchanger. Does the C/H work ok?

    Yes CH is fine

    DHW H/E replaced mid 2008

Pump replaced about 6 months ago

    Both with genuine Ariston parts.

Maybe I will have to pull the DHW H/E out and flush it out

    Thanks

Seems like a flow rate fault. This is usually down to HE scaling up. and reducing the amount of HW available. Does it stay hot if the water is run slowly?

yes seems better at lower flow rate

so I guess the H/E will need to come off for a clean.

maybe a bit of crud jammed in the H/E because as I say the H?E is relaively new but the whole system was descaled / flush with Sentinel X700 in August / Setember.

What the best solution / cleaner to de-scale a heat exvhanger?

X200 is good, but the best solution is a water softner if you can afford one. I hear ]these are pretty good.
