looking at getting a new ps4 should i go slim or pro

I'm not a massive gamer. I only play maybe 5 hours a week if that. I only have a 1080p screen and i'm not looking at getting 4k anytime soon. Should i go for a pro or just stick with the slim? The extra price difference will just be spent on games if i go for the slim

Had to make the same decision myself recently. Went Pro as I want VR next year if more titles emerge and headset price drops. Have 4K TV.

If not for VR, would have just got a slim. Like you I don't game hardcore so, can't see any other way to justify the higher outlay.

Pro imo, as more games are released there will be more that take advantage of the extra power at 1080p

It will end up like 1080p/30fps standard PS4/Slim 1080p/60fps for pro @ 1080p and then 4k/30fps for pro @ 4k

    Anyhow, go pro

I would go for the slim and get a good games bundle then go for the pro when your ready to upgrade to a 4k tv, by then the pro will be much cheaper to buy.

I'm not really into the whole VR thing.

Go pro if you have the choice, you can guarantee that the majority of top games will make use of the hardware and may even optimise the game less than previously on the standard ps4. My guess is we'll start seeing worse performance on the standard ps4 for new titles as it would cost too much to optimise effectively on 2 separate specifications. Disappointing but true.

I still use my day one fatty, never had an issue with it, if I upgrade, it would be for a slim, unless I had plans for 4k an vr, then I would opt for a pro.

Why buy twice though? Get the pro now and take advantage of the grunt @ 1080p and be ready if you do decide to go 4k.

I don't see the sense in buying twice.

i would go pro, it'll be better off in the long run. the money you are saving going towards games, why not put it to a 4k tv or the vr headset? If not then just think what would you rather have a few years down the line?

But he may not buy a 4k tv for a year or something plus he can always make some money back on selling the slim when the time comes to upgrade plus the pro will be cheaper.

i might not be a big gamer but 60fps is something i really care about.

And as was said above, the pro is outperforming the standard at 1080p and I think the gap will only widen... I really do see the standard ps4 games getting treated worse in the development stage.

I'd go Pro if I was buying it myself...I did actually buy a Pro but then took it back as I realised I do have 2 other PS4s and I needed a new washing machine.

But I will end up getting a Pro for sure.

FFXV one of the games that targets 60fps @ 1080p on the pro whereas on the slim I believe it is 30fps

If you have the money then go for the pro, I didn't know about the games being limited etc as I am also looking at getting my son a ps4 for christmas but don't hame the money right now for the pro and buying games as well.

Is the pro as quiet as the slim?

My pro is silent, I think it is a lottery to be honest regardling all varients of the PS4's.

As many have said I think you're better off going Pro, even if you don't do much gaming it will future proof you better and I think would end up saving you money in the long term. The Pro will work with your setup now and as already mentioned if you do them go 4K you will be ready to go. It also should last you longer and when the more labour intensive games come out down the line it will handle it better then the slim will.

Hey pal, as I have advised any person who wants a new PS4 or changing their old / broken one...get a PRO, you will not regret it

Pro - more future proof, you never know there may be a super hot deal turn up on here of a 4k tv that you can't turn down, or your current tv might give up the ghost.
