Looking for a free easy-to-use NAS

I have just bought a new desktop PC and have a 5 year old desktop PC (with IDE drives) sitting doing nothing (it has XP on it).

I fancy setting it up as a NAS (which I have never done before).

What is the simplest (to install and setup ) NAS that I can play around with. It can run on top of XP, or quite happy to replace XP (Linux etc) if need be.

I may not use it long term as I am only doing first time for the experience.

What is going to be connecting to it? Is it XP Home or Pro? Depending on what you're wanting to do exactly you can just set up Windows shares which makes it reasonably easy for many devices to connect and addtionaly you can set up Windows Media Connect within Windows Media Player 11 to share media to consoles and similar. If you're looking more for a full blown NAS setup to play with more rather than just get the functionality I'd probably go the Linux route as there's some pretty good builds out there aimed at NAS boxes.

What is going to be connecting to it?

I have 3 other computers in my house, 2 with Vista, one with Windows 7.

All connected through a router to each other.

I already share folders and files (and 2 printers) across the network
