Looking for a Window / Roof Spoiler for my car

I drive a 1992 Volkswagen Scirocco, which being a car in production from the mid - late 80's and 2 years in the 90's did not come with a lot of accessories.

I'm looking for a roof spoiler / window spoiler for my car but have a couple of restrictions.

Here's what the back end of my scirocco looks like:

    http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/bluestreak56/n268100778_539596_2678.jpg

    The restrictions are as follows:

    - I only have a width of 90cm or 35.5" as the spoiler ends come in the way otherwise.
    - The spoiler needs to be relatively shallow as it needs to sit below the grey plastic at the top of the windscreen so that it does not hinder the opening of the boot.
    - The angle of the windscreen means most estate / hatchback spoilers will end up pointing in the wrong position.
    - The spoiler cannot attach to the roof of the car as this would hinder the opening of the roof.

Here is an example spoiler I've found (made for a Volkswagen Corrado) but I cant find dimensions for the rear window on a Corrado or this spoiler to see if it would fit.

    http://www.tmtuning.com/HOME/medienarchiv/bilder/3842_co-e-122.jpg

The only other spoilers I've seen that may fit so far have been on a Ford Focus but they are pretty deep ...

Any ideas / help would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks :-D

Can't have pics in the OP mate

You're going to need one specifically made to fit the 'Rocco otherwise its not going to fit right at all.

You'd do well to ask over at the Edition38.com forums, lots and lots of very knowledgeable VW owners on there.

From memory (I've owned two Corrados in my time) the spoiler you've linked to is made by Rieger, I dunno if they did one for the 'Rocco but I'd think so, theres still a good following for the car.

Again, try edition38 someone should be able to help you.

theres the-corrado.net too which I used to use alot, a few members on there own Scirocco's and they're a great bunch of blokes.

nice one here, you looked for custom spoilers? http://www.steve-z.com/images/funny/whaletail.jpg

Just had a look through the Rieger online catalogue for you (any excuse to drool over VW's ;-)) and they don't appear to make one for the Scirocco. Have you tried german ebay?

Been on there, was asking if anyone had ordered this spoiler and also if someone could measure the width of the rear windscreen for me .. unfortunately they all seemed to be asleep :?

Haha you know you want to come back to the dark side

Yes Ive been scouring both the german and US ebays but nothing just yet..

One chap on the Rocco forum managed to make one from an Audi 100 Avant spoiler but it hindered the boot closing so Im avoiding that..

here a pic of it though:

That looks like a nice job, probably took ALOT of fettling to make it fit flush though. I think the Corrado one lays flat on the rear window glass, so the trick there would be getting the curve of the spoiler to match the curve of the glass... if its even the right width!

And yeah I want to come back to the dark side... I miss my beasties...

Funny thing is, my 16v (the red one) was 2 years older than your Scirocco, yet I'd always assumed the Corrado was the Scirocco replacement.. apparently they kept making them for a couple of years after the Corrado came out.

Anyway, best bet for measurements (assuming you mean the Corrado since you can just measure your Scirocco yourself!) is to ask on the-corrado.net, someone will measure it for you!

Yea I've seen a couple of Scirocco's registered in 93 and even one in 94 I believe but they were all last built in 92..

The Rado I think first appeared in 89? I believe it was the successor but at first not the direct replacement

I did ask on the forum for the measurements but nobody got back to me :-(

    Ill give them a bump..

Btw just out of interest, did the valver have the same 16v setup as a Mk2 Golf Gti 16v (kr) as thats what I have in my rocco :-D

My valver was one of the first, excluding press cars, registered (according to the paperwork) Dec 1989... I was 10! :-D It does have the same lump as the 16v Golf GTI save for a slightly smaller diameter inlet manifold , which altered the torque curve slightly and made alot of people think the Golf was quicker, it wasn't, you just had to thrash the balls off the Corrado to get it shifting as the power was much higher up the rev range - otherwise they're practically the same.

You've made me go looking at cars for sale now... theres some lovely looking VR6's for £2500! :w00t: Just can't justify the 17mpg that lump used to give me but my god the noise, the power...

Heres our corrado at show last year

Haha yea - The Golf brouchure states the MPG on the kr engine was 26.6 - 46.6 mpg in a heavier car 890kg (Rocco) vs 960kg (Mk2 Golf 16v)

So hopefully mine is a bit better :-D

The Storm's and the VR6's do still hold a pretty penny on the Rado's but I've seen some of the 16v and lower spec early models sell for under £1k in average - good condition..

Nice looking Rado there EBT - didnt realise there were more Rado nuts than Rocco ones to be honest

    Nice

Our house has been full of Merc's and BMW's for the past 30 years with a few other cars here and there.

However I finally managed to get my dad to go back down the VW route after some bad experiences with clutch cables on..

But after I bought my Rocco he changed his C240 Sport for a new shape A4 2.0TDI with ALL the trimmings so were getting there slowly ... im working on my brother at the moment - he hasnt passed yet but a nice Mk2 / Mk3 should suit him as a first car.

My mums Hyundai Getz does a good job and I cant fault it for her really..

Nice to see another silver Corrado, I'm told (although I have nothing to back it up) that silver was the least sold colour, at least in the UK, making them quite unusual. What show was that at?

also, edition one g60... you lucky lucky barsteward!

    It was Edition 38

Moment of madness my DP has regretted it ever since, what makes it worse is a friend bough it so he sees it all the time, was gonna swap my Audi plus cash to get it back but not sure whats happening with that deal.

knowing how rare they are I'd find it impossible to part with one, especially in that condition. Really fancying an oak green or dark grey MK2 GTI at the moment but I know I'd spend more than I can possibly afford just trying to get it to the standard of your old edition one!

Ive told DP your comments and hes feeling even worse now for selling it lol!! Alot of people cant believe we got rid of it. I can tell you I used to call the car DPs 'other woman' - I used to nag all the time how he spent more time and attention on the car rather than me, I dont really mind though I just tease him

You guys seem quite knowledgeable on you VW's. When i was on holiday in South Africa there were brand new Mk1 VW golfs. They were VW citi golf 1.8R just like the original one but with a modern interior. Does anybody know of a company who imports them as always wanted a Mk1 golf but would like the reliability of a newer car and a newer interior.

I had my corrados when I was single, I used to say I didn't need a girlfriend as the corrado was more fun, drank less and more reliable than any woman! :-D (I've since learned the error of my ways mind you)

I've not heard of anyone who imports them specifically, but they do crop up for sale on forums from time to time, like Mexican Beetles.

I don't think they're identical to the original MK1 in terms of panel fit and so on, so I don't think you'd find getting spares as easy as you might hope, although I'm more than willing to be corrected on that!

To be honest, for the cost of getting one brought over yourself (if you can't find an importer) and then the problems of getting it roadworthy to UK standards (not sure, but it may need an SVA test like Jap imports), registered over here and so on, I'd put my money in to a really nice original MK1.

Thanks for that. Just wanted a new car with a little retro appeal. Can't bring myself to go back to the days of waking up and thinking it was cold last night I wonder if the car will start.
I guessing the imported ones command a premium price? They were £7K new in SA so with all the import stuff it will work out a little expensive compared to what you can get here now.
Well I'll keep an eye out for one.
