Looking to buy first DSLR...looking for suggestions

HI, last year i bought a Fuji Finepix S1000fd but have now decided to take a step up to a proper DSLR, but the number of choices seem to be endless!

I'm looking to spend about £300 and will be using it for pretty much anything and everything: landscapes, portraits and macro stuff too.

Can anyone suggest a decent entry-level (i.e budget!) DSLR in my price range. Am open to anything really, and dont mind paying for the body and lenses seperately (the budget I have given is only really for the body and would be willing to spend extra on lens).

From what I understand Sony are good, but the lenses expensive? What brands are best in terms of getting a decent lens for your money?

thanks to anyone who spares the time to repsond

I bought an A200 last month, and absolutely love the results i'm getting. I think u can pick it up (with a lens) for around £250 from Argos, that was the cheapest i found at the time. Remember to leave yourself money to get a tripod, and you'll probably want a remote shutter release too.

Sony are great, and are many second hand lenses on the market as it uses Minolta mount. However, personal a Canon is a better option - although its a personal choice.

You could also go for a nikon D40, mate has one and takes great pictures with it.

I bought a second hand Canon 20d, and it's great, you could probably stretch to a 30d with your budget, but i'd be inclined to get an even better lens for it.
