I Can not give too much advice but am pretty sure the experts will be on to confirm or deny what i say.
I would think that the time you have chosen is actually a busy and expensive time, however sales are often on and if you time it right you will be able to pick up a good flight deal at some point. This would be much closer to the time of travel but not total last minute.

Having been a few times i always book flight seperate and then search accomodation myself seperate, it seems to be the cheapest way for me personally. I would not choose half board ever, the city is full of fab places to eat and i would think trying new places is a huge part of the holiday not spending it in the same place choosing a different item from the menu.

hotelconxions.com/ is pretty good for prices. Also try the frommers guide to NY for fab ideas of things to do, see and places to eat etc.

Check out www.kayak.co.uk for flight scanning but keep an eye on the sales for BA, Continental, AA etc. Who knows what the prices will be this time next year though if the surcharges continue to rise and rise. Its worth it though.

Its one of my fave places and we are going back again in Dec/Jan for another fix of the Big Apple.

Enjoy

As I go every other year, summer is one of the most expensive times to fly out and accommodation hard to find. Early Sept avoid too due to Thanksgiving. If you want good weather try late Sept early Oct, flights also go down and if you can and like to experiment book an apartment, cheaper usually if you're doing a group booking.

It's my fave destination and not just because of the shopping, NYC hosts some great museums, take the Staten Island Ferry for a free harbourside trip and whilst there dine in some great restaurants at the South Street Seaport.

I could go on but if you have any questions let me know

Agree with most of above, apart from the part that says thanksgiving is in September. It is actually on the 4th thursday in november and the NY marathon is usually the 1st week in november. I know as ive been in the city for both.

If you are not to bothered about it being sunny, the winter months are good and for some reason i just love NY best when the sun is not blazing down on you.

As above poster says, if you have any questions just ask.

I s reallly good as a guide to whats on and then you can see when you would like to go based on it.
It also gives really good ideas of things to do on the cheap or free.

try nycopenbook.com. gives the best times to stay in hotels in the states, ie hoilday periods like thanksgiving
