inb4 the usual conspiracy loon.

oh wait!

The Navy isn't commited to Afghan, Britain could still fight a war to protect the Falklands but it will never happen. The South American countries that are causing probems will spite themselves if a worthwhile amount of oil is discovered.

Put maggie on a ship, full to the brim with prisoners to circle around the falklands. I love killing two birds with one exocet.

Firstly, was it even known there were substantial oil reserves there back in 1982?

Secondly, if there wasn't oil there would Argentina be kicking up such a fuss about it?

I'd guess no on both counts...

I think everyone's missing a key thing - this could be an easy win for us.

This could turn our whole season around.

Think you are missing the point!
Why has Great Britain got ANYTHING to do with a small set of islands 300 miles off the coast of South America.

Argentina would get there ass whipped yet again, they will not even try

How on earth could some islands 1000's of miles away belong to Great Britain?

boothy;7924486

Another terrorist apologist/UK hater in our midst no doubt.

I find this an offensive and bullying remark. You are accusing me of being a "terrorist apologist/UK hater" because I ask a legitimate political question about the Falklands.

Gibraltar, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands and others I'm not sure of.
Most Falkland islanders consider themselves British and as such have British passports.

Neither's quoting the communist manifesto like you did in another thread, but I think we'll let it slide on a shopping website:thumbsup:

We have to look at it like this - we're struggling in the premier league so we could do with a moral boosting victory in the Carling Cup.

Sure it's a pretty weak competition against understrength opponents, but it still means we can hire a victory bus at the end of the season.

Even the attempt at a flag is somewhat unconvincing.

Yes Acesnion was key in the retaking of the Falklands

Up until 2007 Britain and Argentina had an agrrement to share the proceeds of any oil discovery. The previous Argentinian president let the agreement lapse and didn't bother to renegotiate the agreement. Shell previously held the exploration licenses but due to the unbelievabnle dificulties and costs involved, pulled out. Now oil is $75 a barrel there is an opportunity to make a profit. So somebody is giving it a go, the markets seem to think they have a fighting chance.
Having been involved in oil exploration down that way in the late '80s anybody willing to work down there is welcome to the money, the conditions were the worst I've ever worked in! The money was good though. :-)

its well documented the rise and fall of the british empire......i believe it is taught in school

it also can be found on the internet on various history sites and in many books........it lasted years, involving slavery and emancipation

why would you not know about the history of a country you choose to reside in?
