Lower car insurance

Found 18th Oct 2017
My car insurance is up soon so I've been looking at renewal quotes. I'm 21 and my cheapest price online seems to be £100 more than I paid for my second year so it's £1700.

I must be doing something wrong, right?

Insurance has gone up year on year (as it does)
A simple explanation goes something like this:
More experience for the following year = £100 discount. Insurance has gone up £200 = Your insurance is £100 more.

What's the reason for the £200 rise?

It's gutting having to pay so much

All the idiots claiming for non existent whiplash and the like.
The UK has been named the whiplash capital of the world after a new study finds nearly 80 per cent of all injury claims made seek compensation for whiplash.

The study, by insurer LV=, finds whiplash claims in the UK are far above the European average, and even trumps countries like the US where whiplash accounts for two-thirds of all injury claims.

Whiplash claims are estimated to cost the insurance industry £2billion a year, adding £90 to every insurance policy. And despite the Government’s efforts to limit the number of uneccesary claims made that raise insurance premiums for the rest of the motoring public, the study finds drivers are still regularly hounded by claims management companies.

Nuff said..
One way often to reduce your insurance surprisingly is to add someone else to your insurance.
Best to choose someone older with their own car and insurance and if they don't live near you that might help.
Worth trying a few quotes online to see if it helps.
Also use quidco etc.
Good luck as insurance for the young is so high.
You'd think the increase in dashcams would help reduce these cons. If someone pulls into the braking gap you've left and slams their brakes on it clearly isn't your fault but I think so many people are blinkered by the idea that hitting from behind = blame.

Strangely enough, my wife lowered her premiums by adding me to her insurance.
I don't even drive.

Whatever excuse they decide to use for that day.

Could be an increase in claims in your area.
An increase in claims in your age group.
An increase in repair costs.
An increase in this
an increase in that...

Just shop around, different companies specialise in different things.

Thanks all. I'll look at adding someone else to my policy. Is there any limit to the link of the person I can add? So can I add anyone or does it have to be just parents/sibling?

Anyone, but not sure how their relationship to you impacts the pricing so try a few people.
It's not going up for everyone. Mine fell from £750 to £650 to £500 and last month to £375 for my 4th year. I was expecting to pay more after all the scare stories on here. Sure my renewal quote was higher but I just used the comparison sites and got a better deal. That's with £0 voluntary excess and £150 compulsory too.

I have both parents on mine and the other years it lowered the price but this year it increased it, although only by £15 so I still did it, I think the person you add needs to have a conceivable reason try maybe use it, but maybe it doesn't matter. Postcode plays a major role though and mine would be over double a few miles away. Job title makes a difference to, MSE has a tool to help with that.

Add Theresa May. Stay away from Boris though.

You're joking,I'd jump at a quote of £700. I think it's going to be a long time for anything like that. My quote of £1700 is with a black box also
Have you been claim free over the past year - if so make sure you have increased your NCD by an additional year.

Assume you've had no convictions/points over the past year?

Also - check what your mileage has been for the past 12 months and make sure you're not overstating that.

Mine fell also from £320 > £305 with same company,Geoffrey insurance previously was called Chaucer Direct. Never get my head around it, changed car last year midterm (brand new car previous was from brand new and was 2.5 year old when changed) with almost double group, 4x value and no changes to cirumstances. £150 access also (£0 voluntary) with protected NCB.
