M74 Completion now due to open June 2011!

Found 11th Mar 2011
I asked Transport Scotland a question about the M74 Completion and their answer included the information that it will open in June 2011 and not August 2011 as previously expected.

The motorway will also open on 22nd May 2011 (provisionally) for joggers and cyclists etc to get a chance to go on it before road traffic goes on it.

I asked Transport Scotland "When the East Kilbride Bypass was completed, it opened for 1 day for cyclists and joggers to do a 10K on it in aid of a Cancer Research Charity. Are there plans to open the new section of the M74 for a similar event before it's officially opens for regular road traffic?"

Transport Scotland said "In advance of the June opening of the motorway, a charity event is provisionally planned for 22 May. This will involve walkers, runners and cyclists. The plan is to start and finish the event at the west end of the new motorway and take participants onto the motorway to do an “out and back” walk, run or cycle to Polmadie Road (4 km route) or over the full length to Fullarton Roundabout (14km route).

It's likely to be limited to 20,000 participants, website will have full details."

If you're doing the full route, make sure you don't walk too far east
