But ive tried to insert the install disc(original one which came with it and another macbook pro disc) but it just ejects, ive tried pressing the C key at boot up and the same thing still occurs anyone know why this is.

What are you trying to install on?

    I want to reinstall osx.

gathered that, but onto what machine??

If windows works through the VMbox and you can boot into that, leave the disc in on the windows side reboot the Mac and hold down 'alt' this should give you the boot option on startup and then you may be able to select the disc.

I need a bit more info on exactly what you have and what you have done, what happens when you cold boot the machine etc.

Different MacOSx installation disc won't work on other machine because of the firmware on each machines are different.

For e.g: You would not be able to use Macbook Pro installation disc on Mac Mini to restore the MacMini

Tried to restore that disk under Disk Utility to a USB drive, and also there is a walk around to make it work, google it..

But in the events of different installation discs, you should be able to go into the menu by pressing C at the start up

True, it gives you a message though and OP didn't mention that..amongst other things X)

However you can install specific OSX discs from another Mac with fire wire in target disc mode.

If it is the disk which is faulty and you need it for a MacBook pro, I've got the disks from the MacBook pro 15in 2010 model i got replaced and so the disks aren't of use to me, let me know if they might be of use to you.

Basically , I've got a lot of business data on the laptop. So i want to complete restore or do a fresh install on the laptop.

However when inserting the original disc provided with the macbook pro (which is scratched admittingly) it ejects after trying to read it for a minute or so. So i tried a 2011 disc and the same thing happens.

However a week a go i installed windows via vmware fine so it cant be a dvd drive issue? I think im going to try another disc, a movie or something just in case.

Sickly sweet I may give that a go will PM you if no luck. Thanks for your kindness.

It wont even go into that menu the disc spins for a minute or two, you can hear it reading but it ejects.

haha i dont know the firmware password will ask my uncle when hes back from holiday. Tried resetting it by removing ram modules but that never worked oh well. Only a 10 day wait.

I can still use it as i know the login password etc, but just preferred to do a fresh install

How much RAM is in there, I thought if you changed the state of RAM for example if you had 1GB and left 512mb in a booted it would disable the FW password becuase its a state change.

    Try this process.

After removing / adding more RAM than before, Turn on the computer and immediately reset PRAM by holding the Command-Option-P-R key combination. Press the keys until you've heard two successive startup sounds.

Open Firmware password protection should be now disabled. Shut down the computer and return it to its original RAM configuration.
