the only bit of advice i can give you is they tend to like the opposite gender so be very careful i have a 16 year old female african grey and she hates women and there are 4 women in my household therefore she doesnt come out of the cage as she is very nasty she even trys to attack my newfoundland dog.have a good read up about them before you decide macaws are very big and personally i wouldnt like a bite off one lol.

we have had a grey too dont know much about macaws
mardyass is very good for advice x

they can be noisy, and remember a macaw is for life not just for christrmas

my parrot came straight from the congo

biter n a half

get em young n they will be ok

Find out the species name, and do a search online to find out as much information as you can. I have heard about parrots that have been unwanted to due the amount of noise they make etc. They can require a lot of care, and feather plucking can be a problem for many due to stress and/or depression.

My brother had one and when I babysat it used to drive me up the wall squawking all the time ,They had to move it away from the wall because it pecked all the wallpaper and pecked any hand that came near it ,

My friend had to have a will written up including instructions for the parrotts care before teh breeder would hand over the bird, as they can out live you.

I would do a lot of research and fully understand their husbandry needs and therefore the amount of input required by you before buying.

my sister inlaw as a macaw they need lots of attention lots of toys to play with and are very loud, even though hers is out of the cage most days it still needs a very big cage. she has had hers since baby yet it still bites people now an again (no harm done but it still hurts yes she does tell him of) and he is very messy

i have a african grey my bird talks so much more and my bird more active during the day and is not as loud but still needs the same amount of attention but for me i prefer the grey at least he can amuse his self

lol am i the only one with a evil parrot??? she doesnt give a stuff this bird she is quite happy in her cage has never plucked feathers wont have toys she growls at them and if she is out of the cage she chases you. she will even stand up to the dog who is 9 stone and run at her.i got her when she was 5 so i have had her for 11 years and no matter what you do to try and change her it doesnt work lol also she swears alot of which she picked up from where she used to live and its very embarrising so defo buy from being young either that or you may have to put up with the bird calling you visiters a fu**er or maybe get up the fu**ing stairs its bad and when you are talking to someone the bird just say no sh** over and over again.

they do some perches that are coated with like sand they are good as they help to keep there beaks and nails down so get at least one of these i also buy bird bath spray to keep the dust down on her feathers but maybe ask at the shop as with it being so young i wouldnt be sure to be honest.

i like the caiques too
have u seen this one trying to pop and lock lol

Sounds like a member on here :giggle:

I've got a one year old Amazon and he spent 2-3 days next to a macaw in the pet shop. VERY noisy parrots, need alot of attention, I guess they'll get through twice as much food at least 4-5 times more toys. My Nan had one for a few week until it bit her really bad, she was scared to get it out of the cage from then on and had to pass it on.
