Obviously you'll still have to pay the money.. but yeah you can cancel the dd after!
If you give them any card details they'll just take regular payments off your debit card if you cancel the DD without notifying them.
its usually a 12 month minimum, they could easily chase it up if they feel they need to..

Read what I wrote.

Anyways - wrong, totally inaccurate. The bank will notify the company the DD status is "cancelled" - the company can reinstate and claim the payment if they have not been notified by the customer prior to the payment request.

If you've paid for the year via that one direct debit then cancel it afterwards, it means you have paid for the year but i would call the magazine towards the end of the year to let them know you have cancelled the DD and don't want another year's subscription.

utter rollox! A company can never reinstate a customer cancelled DD.

Working at a bank is no evidence of intellectual ability you know. In fact, the opposite is true in my experience :whistling:
wouldnt u feel guilty for doing that intentionally?!

I agree, I have never heard of a customer DD being reinstated.

Depends, there are genuine reasons sometimes. ie. I got the FHM subscription for £24 for a year and you got a free game, thus with selling the game I made a profit. So I cancelled the subscription as soon as they took the £24 so in 12months they cant take it.

That's fine, but you are incorrect. I've seen it happen so many times when a stupid customer phones up banging on about why the bank has honoured it when the DD was cancelled. Reason being, agreement is between company and customer, bank doesn't know ins and outs of any contract adhered to it only administers the payment.

A company can and WILL reinstate a cancelled DD if they have not been notified and wish to claim their money.

Or as previously said, will automatically take it off debit card if you have provided your card details. I'm afraid regardless of your previous experiences with banks, you do not know more about the subject than I or most of my colleague's do.

LOL at your ignorance. Just because you made mistakes by reinstating cancelled DD's doesnt mean its right!

FROM BACS WEBSITE :-D

Money cannot be collected from your account after you have cancelled. An organisation would have to obtain your authority to reinstate a cancelled instruction
