I think it was pure luck.

    Complete fluke .............

If that was an algerian, slovakian or honduras player no one would have hardly mentioned it.

    agree.
He looked up to pass IMO

Brilliant, but I'm getting deja vuvuzela about this topic.

Was a shot. It's precisely because it wasn't an Alrgerian, Slovakian or Honduras player that gives it credibility.

I'd say it was brilliant, for two reasons. The first is that the technique required to swerve the ball like that and cross the ball from the byline are sufficiently distinct that it's unlikely he aimed for the latter and got the former. The second is that he is an exceptionally good player, which not only makes it less likely that he intended the cross and messed it up, but also makes it more likely that he intended the shot and pulled it off.

Brilliant fluke, any other country and it would be seen as a shanked cross...which it was but cos its brazil every wets their pants

Isn't there a difference between fluke and mistake.

Are the people saying it was a fluke admitting he tried to score or cross. I'm confused, a fluke to me is saying that he meant to score from there but was lucky to do so.

For me, he meant to drive the ball across the box with pace, hoping for a touch off anyone.

It ended up in the back of the net for 2 reasons.

1 - It came off the outside of his foot (not meant)
2 - Poor positioning from the goalkeeper.

You are kidding right, he never meant to hit it with the outside of his boot :w00t:

If that was meant to be a cross don't you think he hit it a tad too hard. Can you honestly believe a Brazillian would smash it into the box hoping to 'hit someone'. If it had it would have took their leg off at that rate.

What would it take to make you believe he meant it?

not convinced it wasnt deliberate, the keeper was out of position which he would have spotted, there was no brazilian striker in position to receive the type of pass that people are implying he played

pure luck, was a cross gone wrong imo

    Nothing :-D

Both brilliant and lucky, which is good enough for me.

At the end of the day, the ball found the net in an amazing way. He may not have meant it, but by God, it was a hell of a goal!

^^^this and the keeper left enough space to drive a bus through at his near post.

Players don't have to be 'available' for a cross to go in...look at argies first goal yesterday get any kind of decent ball into the box and as long as someone gets something on it, it could go in...in yesterdays case it got a touch from korea and was an own goal.

Off topic but oh well, come on england tonight! lol

    at worst it was a cross-shot ?. I say the latter . .

What about Ronaldinho in 2002? Cross or shot?
