I'm a member of makro, used to have a business so kept my membership.
Their online prices available to the public are more than you would pay for at the warehouse.
Went there over xmas, forgot my card, was told at desk to ask for a "day pass" upon checkout. Used to be different, asked a load of questions at desk, seems they are forgoing all that so anyone can walk in and buy.

I remember queuing up at 7am or something for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, and then my xbox 360 console getting banned when I put the disk in.

Day passes are generally just issued to members who have forgotten their passes, if I remember correctly.
Pretty sure they don't hand them out to anyone.
I used to work for Makro.

The day pass was at the checkout, so same one used for all customers. Yes you are correct as I have previously mentioned, you were asked your business and then a day pass was given to you. Things change, Makro's online and open to the public, maybe this was just a one off to stop a queue building up at the entrance over the busy period and was only for xmas.

You have to remember that all is not cheap at Makro, the wholesale side of it seems to be used mainly by the smaller business but the normal items in there are much as any supermarket, some bits cheap and some expensive. It has been setup to be able to retail in what are non retail sites, the 'membership' has to be done to allow them to operate as cash and carry which is allowed. So if they relax it now and then it is will only be temporary.
