Malta holiday

Has anyone been to Malta recently? Looking to go at end of month for a week, will be travelling as a family of 4: 2 children age 9 and 13.
I've been told its expensive to eat/drink out there?
We have been before to Cyprus, Majorca etc and enjoy these holidays, but looking for something new.

Hello,

I've been out there numerous times, both work and pleasure and its almost like a mini England.....

Yes, it can be pricey though as the exchange rate of the Maltease Pound vs Sterling and the cost of things out there is pari-pasu.....

Its certainly NOT as cheap as the other countries that you have mentioned.

If you do a google search or similar on (say) Valetta Restaurants - you should come up with quite a few of the local restaurants and bars and what not - and a lot of the websites have prices on,,,, (As long as its local)....

But in general - what you have heard I would agree with on the whole.

HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!!

Its SO historic - but beautiful as well!!

(((Thinks of Maltease Falcon)))

:-)
What I am getting at - is (say) a packet of crisps costs 50p here - if it costs 50p there - because of the value of the currency - you are actually paying about 80p so it can be a bit $$$$

The Maltese pound??? They use euros!

Stayed at Meliah Bay at DBS Seabank all inclusive last year and loved it.

If you avoid the overpriced areas of Sliema/St.Julian's/Paceville then the price of food and drink is not too bad. Try and find the places the locals go to eat and drink as they usually offer better value and quality. The Maltese are very friendly and helpful people and will gladly give you some pointers. As someone else mentioned, take a look at Groupon. Also, there is the Malta Discount Card which you may find useful. Link to that is: maltadiscountcard.com/

If you are planning to do a lot of travelling then it might be worth looking into getting bus passes for the week. You can get a 1 week unlimited travel bus card for €21 (adult) and €15 (child) which can be used all over Malta.
