Manchester airport advice

Myself and my girlfriend are travelling from Manchester airport to crete on the 9th June this year for 2 weeks. As we stay in Glasgow I'm looking for the cheapest option of getting down there.

Ideally I wouldn't like to take a bus, but there's not exactly any cheap bus deals on just now.

Our departure is at 1355 and return time 2300, so could only really get a train down on the 9th (day of departure) and a return train on the 24th, which would mean staying over in a a hotel nearby.

To drive down it's approx 440 miles return, which could be about £40 petrol, with the cheapest parking £47, and cheapest hotels about £40.

Train tickets are about £120 for some reason, with return flights around about the same.

Does anyone have any advice for me? As I really should book soon, is it worth holding off for some Virgin train deals, are the parking charges likely to increase nearer the time? Really struggling here as when we booked the holiday I didn't realise it'd be such a large sum extra trying to get from Glasgow to Manchester (last time I did it was about 4 years ago, and as I was 17 then I'm sure it was a lot cheaper).

Thanks a lot :-)

so you can pay for 1 night at a hotel then go on holiday for a holiday for 2 weeks and leave your car in that hotel car park free of charge?

yes we stopped at the Raddison and had free parking for two wks and free airport transfers.. that was a few years ago though

.. actually cant remember if it was the raddison that did the free parking.. it was a hotel about 2 miles from the airport, il take a look

theres always hidden expenses when you book a holiday and things have gone up so much in the past 3/4 yrs.

i hope you find an option you can afford and enjoy your holiday together x x

sign me up for that then, i only live 15 miles away but doing it that way would probably be cheaper than getting a return taxi.

yea-secure parking too..saved a fortune in airport parking fee's!

if you find that any hotels are still doing those offers, its well worth posting as a deal

That sounds perfect wherever that is to park for 2 weeks?

I've just done a more thorough search on the trainline and came up with 4 single tickets for £56 in total for the two of us (rather than returns which for some reason more than doubles the price).

The train down to Manchester airport arrives over an hour before check in opens and the train back home is the next day, which means still need to get a nearby hotel but I think this would probably be the easiest (less stressful) and cheapest option.

Got either the premier inn at the airport for £45, the holiday inn for £59 or the brittannia for £45. Anyone stayed at any of these?

Thanks a lot for all the help and advice :-)

really quick google and picked a date in late april gave me £83 for a double room,3* and free parking and transfer..can DEF geta better deal but dont have the time...

It was the Britannia country house in Didsbury we stopped at with the 2 weeks free secure parking.. very noisy hotel though as it has its own nightclub, never slept.
train down & a night in the premier inn sounds easiest!

I think I'll go ahead with the train and premier inn then, for £101 can't really argue with it. I found another hotel, the etrop folio hotel, doing free parking for your holiday, with bed and breakfast for one night for £89 for 2 people (or £65 per night for minimum 2 night stay). Never even knew about this before, so thanks for all the help.

Rep added to all

personally id drive down and stay in the hotel...nothing worse to spoil going/coming back from holiday than dragging loads of luggage on a packed train!even if it works out a bit more expensive its a much less stressful way of starting/ending ur hols!hava good time anyway!

im flying from there myself in 4 weeks, i only live 35 miles away so am paying for return taxi for 7 of us ( £98.00)
hope you have a great time

Return rail is possible for £48 for 2, out 9th June 0710-1047, return 24th June 0618-0945. That may be worth considering if you don't mind not getting much sleep!
