Manchester Piccadilly, and then walk down to Market Street/ Piccadilly Garden about 10 mins walk or jump on any Metrolink Tram and the next stop is Piccadilly Garden, 2 minutes

Or if you have the option to go to Manchester Victoria, closer to Arndale

Depends which shops, but I always get off at picadilly gardens - it's a short walk to anywhere from there really. It's nearest all the 'high street' shops and the arndale centre.

I'd say Picadilly as well, cos more trains roughly every 15 mins from Bolton to Picadilly whereas to Victoria 1 every hour during off peak and 2 in peak times.

Both about the same walking distance to arndale i'd think.

Well I personally always find the street acts quite interesting and you usually pass two or three on the way to the Arndale centre. Also the gardens themselves are quite nice, I usually get a sandwhich and a coffee for my lunch and sit out there while I consume them

    What gardens?

I also can't stand street entertainers.

The bit with the grass and all the fountains. And I only visit once a month or so, so I still find them entertaining. That's where George Sampson started

    I never got that impression

Everytime my daughter goes past it "play in the water mummy, play in the water!" even though i've never let her cos i'm not the type to carry a change of clothes around. Even now in the cold weather..
