can anyone tell me how much of a difference it makes if you are off sick before you start maternity leave, does it affect maternity pay alot if your off sick just that ive heard if you are off sick then you hardly get any money as it goes off a percentage of what you earn in the last few weeks or something like that. ive tried looking online to find an answer but not found anything.

i was sick for 4 months before my maternity pay and i got ssp from asda who i was still employed by at the time (mat started april 2006) think it was 90% of contracted earnings or a shade under £100, whichever is LESS :-(

i had a bad pregnancy and was off for nearly the first 3 mths and then went off sick again on my 32nd week i got paid sick pay ( from my work) then my maternity started on the 34th wk ( employer forces this ) my maternity pay wasnt any less think it worked out about £400 odd per month. hope this helps
