So he's just got some new parts to make a pc. The fans etc start up but nothing else happens, nothing on the screen, no beeps from the motherboard. Gfx card should be fine as was working on his last pc fine.

What's up with this? Motherboard knackered??

Thanks!

what mobo is it? doesnt it have a lcd display on it? may give some clue with an error code.

oh..

have you connected both the main mobo connector and if appicable the additional 4 pin connector?

or bios could be wiped, could be a number of things in fact

is this the convention of computer fixing with blindfolds?

lol, just looking for a general idea as to what it might be and try to rule some stuff out.

Was thinking that if the motherboard doesn't beep then it's definately knackered? Was hoping someone could confirm that??

RTFM, they don't all beep.....some have LED readouts, some beep error codes, some etc.

True.

There will probably be a socket to plug a micro speaker in on the I/O terminals. This was the situation with my Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD4. The 'speaker' actually came with the case.

try taking every component out and only replug the essiential stuff, if you still see nothing when you try and reboot then the motherboard must have gone, due to static when putting in new parts. This has happened to me 3 times :S. Next time get an anti static wrist strap or mat, should prevent it, or hold the case while touching the components

Been round and had a look, there's no LCD display on the motherboard, there is a speaker though. No beeps from the motherboard even with no ram, video card, cpu etc.

Must be knackered right? It's all powered up properly.

Can we get any more information Benjimoron?

For example, what did he build specifically, new case/mobo/memory/cpu?

Is there no speaker output via the pins located where you put the power on/reset/pwr led etc. You should have a 4 pin speaker plug you can pop in to get some error code spew.

Is the system booting at full fan speed and staying with the fans going pretty loud, rather than slowing down the fans after a couple of seconds?

Have you checked that the CPU has been installed correctly and that no pins are broken. Also check the heatsink is mounted correctly, that the fan headers are plugged in and all power cables 20/24pin and 4/8pin.

Have you cleared the CMOS yet. Try re-building outside of the case.

Are you sure the motherboard is connected to the psu properly. i remember having this problem and it was caused by me not plugging in the other part of the lead :?
