McDonalds Fillet o Fish

Anyone else noticed an inconsistency with these?
I've noted in recent months following visits to branches across the country that more often than not, this item is 'made' and arrives a minute after you order it, and looks & tastes like it has been microwaved.
On rare occasions, it takes 4 or 5 minutes to arrive and looks & tastes reasonably fresh.

I'm wondering if most branches that I've visited have a stock of these precooked and they literally just re-heat them?
Even the cheese looks rubbery and quite orange compared to what I presume are the 'fresh' ones that get served now and again.

rubbery cheese in McD's is the norm. Probably they take a quick look at who ordered and if they don't like the look of you send out a microwaved one.

What I'd like to know, it why do they always only contain half a slice of cheese???

They keep them warm in a holding tray in the kitchen as with all chicken and fish.

4-5 min wait and you'd have had one fresh from the fryer as think they take about 3 mins to cook.

What difference does it make your fish has still been frozen for its long trip from the coast of Australia

I'm not seeing the relevance?

Its not fresh anyway

I prefer a BK's Whopper but it must be the beef and pig fat leaking in, giving McD's filet-o-fish & fries it's unique flavour:

Bon apetite

I can gobble one of these up in 4 bites, it is ridiculously small. Very tasty but you can get a meal deal for the same price elsewhere!

Team?

No one eats them in our local, they are always cooked to order. Who goes to Maccy D's an orders fish? Weird.

I remember for ages a McDs in Glasgow had these for 99p a go. Even if that was ten years ago, it was a bit of a HUKD bargain.

Veggys?

Ive always found Veggys going to a Maccys for this or other veggy stuff weird as surely they would hate such companies for the amount of animal slaughter they are involved with.

I come from a family of Veggys (I know veggys in head jokes) but I do and they all ate from Maccies still theyre vegans now so dont.

I used to eat these previously, but a lot of people have told me that the fish 'pattie' is fried in the same grease as the chicken pattie (for the McChicken sandwich).

McDonald's isn't really for gastronomes - just addictive overproduced slime, perhaps go one step up to 'Tennessee Fried Chicken' or such

It will vary from store to store. Son stores are part of franchises and may have slightly different procedures.

If you ask they may at their discretion fry your fillet o fish separately.

All products have their own fryer eg nuggets done in different fryer to chicken sandwiches etc and fish and veggie definitely had their own fryer, even apple pies had their own!

That was when I worked there in ma yoof so going back 10 years or so but I would imagine it would still be the same, if not better with regards to cross contamination.

The amount of ppl that came in and would ask for a Cheeseburger with no meat was pretty crazy though, especially as the bread was terrible!

I briefly worked in a McD's as a teenager and iirc, as they were rarely ordered, they were made fresh every time - hence the wait and better taste. if it's a bigger restaurant they may keep some ready to go with the other burgers, etc., so it will have sweated away in the box for some time before you order it, but it will come quicker.

That seems to be the case.
Was debating with the staff at a branch the other day and got them to take the nasty rubbery ones away and cook some fresh ones.

Aren't there some internal McDonalds guidelines regarding how long the food can be held for? If not, then quality standards have dropped.

It depends on their reasons for being vegetarian.

My ex was a vegetarian, and lactose intolerant (hard to cook for, lol) and although she was a big animal lover, that wasn't the reason for her being vegetarian, she was just insecure due to constant bullying from her family, and had it stuck in her head that she was fat/disgusting

I do eat meat, and dairy, but on occasion. I was vegetarian for two years simply because of a fear of improperly prepared meat and the likes.

I don't think someone who is vegetarian because they think animal slaughter is cruel, unnecessary and all that other stuff would visit McDonald's.

Don't overlook the significance of convenience for some people.
