My grandad has emphysema and also some damp in his house so I’m keen to get him something asap. This one has somewhat mixed reviews, best to look elsewhere?

You'll probably want to fix the drain pipe in. Constantly emptying the tank manually doesn't sound fun if you have emphysema

It's a compressor model. Dessicant dehumidifiers are more suited to unheated areas such as garages and outbuildings, also they are way more expensive to run.

Highly recommend. This is the best dehumidifier I have ever owned. I have it in my bedroom. And it pops on occasionally, very quietly. I have no problem anymore with any water dripping down the windows. It does its job quietly and well.
