Mechanics - Removing Ford mondeo tdci injectors

My injectors need refurbing. To save abit of money, Im thinking of removing the injectors myself and sending them off to an approved specialist.

Are they hard to do? or is it something for an expert

You need a proper tool to pull them out with,there is a 10mm bolt to undo and then the injector pulls out.If you dont pull the injector straight up,and turn it while removing it,it will brake a plastic bit of solenoid.I found out the hard way £700 later

sorry I dont,it was already too late by the time I found out so didnt bother looking into it any further

is it easy to access them? take it i have to disconnect fuel line

It is easy to access them,you just need a 17mm spanner to take the fuel line off the top of the injector,the leak off pipes should just pull off.Also should be some wiring the disconnects,just squeeze the sides and pull

Buy a blown engine and you won't have this problem again :whistling:

hope you will be re-fitting the old injectors as new ones have to be re-coded to the ecu, but we have had to in the past re-code the old ones after being re-fitted !

well I would like some new ones but I cant find em anywhere with the codes i need EJDR00301Z.

So i was thinking of removing them, sending them off to a specialist to have em refurbed then towing car to garage to get them to fit em and re-code em

Just want to make sure its not a pain to remove em, dont wana damage em

did you get that code from the injector ? if you did its not long enough, its about 15 digits, you need to slide up the black clip up on the injector to get the full code number

well garage who tested them gave me the ford finis code which was 1376694. Rang up ford who said the code was 2S7Q9K546AJ which is part no EJDR00301Z (101Z was older one i think).

Common fault apparantly just a ballache to sort out. Garage quoted me £700 to have re-conned and code n fitted

Also, even though It might turn out to be a waste of money have you tried a few bottles of forte in the tank? It's worked wonders on cars I have traded on in the past.

cheers will rep u n danzab more when I can. I looked on ebay but cant find part no and im a bit dubious about getting 2nd hand ones from there, especially ones outside of packaging, they could just be knackered as well

i can certainly understand your concern with regards second hand off there ,he bought new off ebay, packaged as well.

how long did it take to recode them and what sort of price did you charge? im in a similar situation, i have some replacement injectors but need them fitted and coding..

Depending on whether you have a Euro 3 or Euro 4 engine, I believe Euro 4 TDCi's started at about 2004 then you can recode the injectors yourself using a Ford F Super Scanner from ebay, they're about £20. You plug it into your computer, program injectors with the code on the side of each injector. If you're happy to fit them yourself using the correct injector tool, again I think they're about £12 then you can save yourself a lot of money.

i had mine refurbed £60 each,hardest part was removing them took several days soaking with penetrating oil as they were seized solid.i had mine done by this firm gwdale.co.uk/ used alot locally (they're in stoke on trent) taxi firms use them as do lots of businesses,i would get them done asap as there is nothing worse than car going in to limp mode ,as mine did on M6 in fast lane,it does this to protect engine.

Anyone know the best place to buy replacement injectors? Ford are about £300 a pop but the car isn't worth that much. The ones in there now are re-manufactured and I doubt they'll manage another re-furb.

Hi I have a 2003 tdci mondeo.
It starts and drives fine but some times the glow plug light comes on and the engine stops. But if I turn the key off and on again it drives fine again. Could this be the injectors ??

been told to put cola round them seems to dissolve the crusty coke that makes them a bitch to remove,or several days of soaking in eazing oil ,believe me they are a real pain to get out

My mondeo deisel has a flat spot and pauses as I accellerate its not too bad when I first start it but gets worse as engine gets warmer any ideas what it may be ? Also my radio has locked and I have lost code any suggestions getting desperate now

If you slide out radio (you need special keys to put in slots around edge of unit - I got mine off ebay for about 3 quid), the serial number of the radio is then visible. It starts with M...... Go to pumapeople.com/dec…php type in the serial number and it will generate the code for you.
Regarding your other problem it could be any of a number of things (injectors, pump, turbo) Best get a diagnostic. You can either pay a garage to do it (about 30/40 quid) or if you have a laptop, buy a F-2 super off ebay for about 15 quid. Plug it in the diagnostic port (it pulls down from the bottom of the dashboard near the drivers feet. When connected you can look at the stored error codes (DTCs) in the cars computer. The codes won't necessarily tell you exactly what's wrong but at least point you in the general direction. After that it's a matter of looking at forums like this or talkford.co.uk to try and narrow down what the problem is. Sometimes error codes will be erased when the car is restarted.

You could do that but its more of a faff (your lucky in the sense you have a Euro4 engine so you can reprogramme yourself with a F Super scanner off eBay), or take them out yourself and recondition them yourself, it's not a particularly hard job to do.

Presuming you are absolutely certain both injectors are leaking off too much fuel, I'm assuming a leak off test has been done.

Doing it this way means you dont have to reprogram anything.

Hi I've got an 06 plate mondeo 2.0 tdci just wandering what is my best option for sorting out my injectors just put in the garage found that 2 are misfiring but he wants 400 quid to sort 2 of them. Thanks in advance

Before you spend money on injectors you need to find out if the high pressure fuel pump is breaking up on the inside. Tiny fragments of metal will then flood the fuel system and ruin the injectors. If you replace injectors the new ones won't last long. Try taking the fuel filter off and cutting it in half using tin snips. Then carefully examine the paper filter for signs of metal fragments. Don't use a hacksaw as this will cause metal fragments from the filter housing to fall inside the filter.
If you find any, it'll be a new pump, flushing of the fuel system and 4 new injectors. I junked a 2005 Mondeo 2 years ago with 108000 on the clock as it wasn't worth spending the money to fix it.

If I said I soaked my injectors overnight in "Nitromores" Paint stripper then in the morning soaked the tips in Break fluid cleaner and after 3x soaks/rinses put back in the car would you think im totally mad?

If you say "Yes" Please try my suggestion as my tips are so clean with no effort and its like a new car.....

Still has the cut out symptom but for the first time in the year ive owned the dud of a TDCi 2.0 Zietec im so happy. .

As for removal.. . its seriously a 10 min job unless they are stuck ... mine were not. . and same for putting them back.

17mm spanner for the pipes then 21mm injector tool with a window... . dont be scared! I was for no reason and especially as the garage I brought it from tried to talk me out of it!

They did that because they knew they sold me a DUD... now this DUD is a STUD all it takes is a little effort and patitents with bad Mondeo 2.0l TDCi Injectors and you will be happy.

Personally that said if I had a vice I would have split the injectors and soaked them in paint stripper as I didnt have an untrasonic bath to hand to clean them for me....
