    Medical Exemption Certificates ???

    My friend has a disability and is registered blind, he has a Medical Exemption Certificate. Does this mean his wife can qualify to receive free or discounted dental treatment? If yes, will this also cover tooth implants?

    no it doesnt

    Free dental treatment is available if your are on income support or WFTC under £15,500. I doubt if tooth implants will be covered by this.

    Just because you are disabled it does not mean you qualify for free dental treatment as many people can and do work when they are registered disabled.

    But he has been receiving free dental treatment but was wondering if his partner would receive discounted treatment too as it mentions something about the partner but is not to clear about it

    if his medical exemption is purely due to his disability benefit (just for him) and not because of any other benefit, then no

    All depends on circumstances and income. You would be better phoning CAB or Job centre they may help. Or maybe your dentist may be able to give you more information.

    cant see why she should get free dental treatment unless she is blind or earning below the capped limit

    I don't think being blind lets you get free dental treatment. It is all down to your income.

    whoooooosh

    either way, there is absolutely NO CHANCE of implants being covered.
    Implants are classed as cosmetic, non essential.

    Lol, i've looked into this in the past for him,

    Being registered blind entitles you to free nhs medication and dental treatment, 50% discount on tv license and the ability to receive a freedom pass.

    I've worked in the DWP too and know that the above is correct, but i was unsure about the spouse.

    lol. mainland, blind half price over 16 or 18.

    You can get free NHS dental treatment if you are:

    * under 18
    * 18 and in full-time education
    * pregnant, or have had a baby in the 12 months before treatment starts,
    * an NHS inpatient and the treatment is carried out by the hospital dentist, or
    * an NHS Hospital Dental Service outpatient. There may be a charge for dentures and bridges

    You are also entitled to free NHS dental treatment if you or your partner (including civil partners), receive either:

    * Income Support
    * Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
    * Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
    * Pension Credit Guarantee Credit; or
    * you are named on, or entitled to (use your award notice as evidence), an NHS tax credit exemption certificate, or

    so does this mean his partner can receive free dental treatment? I 'THINK' he also receive employment support allowance too (recently called incapacity benefit)

    its like trying to get blood out of a stone

    It would have to include some kind of income support to include incapacity benefit. Again it is down to your total income.

    I get incapacitybenefit. DLA and have an exemption for prescriptions on health grounds.but have to for my dental treatment as my husband works and our income is just above, £16,000
