Apparently the Chinese are busily developing new legal highs tho.

It's gonna be like this from now on... :x

Just say no - that includes you Joe :-(

yep-agree,but the problem is that they just move on to the next "legal high" then that gets banned, then the next etc.etc-if the government have to ban each substance by specific scientific composition every time another hits the market then its a complete losing battle methinks.

It takes too long to get the legislation through and people die in the meantime.

im interested to see which deaths have been caused solely by mephedrone as ive yet to see 1

scaremongery

Boothy I bet you are screwed now! :P

Nah good idea though.

So they'll be banning alcohol and fags because they kill people too?... thought not... media hype wins again although I do think it's the right thing to do.

The main problem with legal highs is people think they're safe, when they're not. Boshing a vast amount of a legal high will have the same nasty effects as an illegal drug....

What do you mean from now on? Been 'like this' for longer than anyone here can remember...

yep good idea just like they enforce the ban on mobile calls while driving, still happens and more likely more deaths from that too

it will just drive it underground making the problem worse same as every other illegal drug.......now the price will go up and you will start getting it contamintaed with all sorts of dangerous chemicals making it even more dangerous......

complete backfire........

Spot on! Mephedrone has been available for years now, however, recently the media has just increased the awareness of it which has more than likely led to MORE people trying it, not less! And all to sell a few more papers, and for our politicians to gain a few more votes but saying they will ban the drug.

What a complete an utter mess - but no surprise really!

Bingo

the figure of 18 possible mephedrone-related deaths in England was based … the figure of 18 possible mephedrone-related deaths in England was based on data from the National Programme on Substance Abuse Deaths, which collates information from police forces and forensic labs. Iversen said they were regarded as the most reliable source but cautioned he was only saying the drug was possibly implicated in those deaths. Full postmortems have yet to be carried out. A further seven cases have been reported in Scotland, although only one so far has been confirmed as a mephedrone-related death and the heroin substitute methadone was also reported to be a factor in the case.

complete joke so out of all thise deaths they dont have any post mortems yet other than 1 in scotland........ the 1 they do have has methadone(heroin sub) and alcohol in his system which are killers mixed together anyway

like i said its just plain scaremongery

why have they just refused to ban alcohol advertising before 9pm? surely alcohol is a definite killer and yet advertising it in front of kids is deemed acceptable

guardian.co.uk/med…ing

Another well thought out policy in the "War on Drugs"

Next....

Typical, I dont take it but its just an excuse to make people look good.

Dont people realise you can die and also get a buzz from over the counter drugs like cough syrup? yet they arent banned, you could argue that if you take something OTC in moderation it wont cause problems but then whats the same issue with legal highs, sure they are unregulated but that doesnt mean OTC drugs are perfect.

3300 car deaths per year ban the car

GOOD! all you people talking about how it isnt harmful at all, you are chatting absoloute balls.
I know a kid on the floor above me heavily addicted gurning at 2pm in the afternoon - it started off as a bit of a laugh and now he is a fully blown addicted. He has lost mega amounts of weight and sleeps all day. has massive ulcers from the acidity of the drug. Its a terrible drug that not many understand.

It will clearly kill someone, so ban it... now.

Great argument! Let's just run that through the ratio filter and I'm sure we'll have an even better argument!

So how many people drive cars and how many people take Mephedrone?

well soon youll be able to add a criminal conviction and possible jail time to his list of problems

do you think making it illegal will solve his problems?

this drug has been around for a few years.........there were no attributed deaths until the press got hold of it and advertised it around 6 months ago

the only people who benefit from making drugs illegal are criminals......FACT

Seems a sensible move to me

Yeah cos if you had told those kids it was a class B drug they wouldn't have took it :?

Tobacco and alcohol are clearly killing people, lets ban them too

yep, the sun ran this big story and have been banging on about it ever since how this killed them 2 lads recently, yet it mentioned in the report how they also took methadone.

It should be made illegal, but it's great stuff :whistling:

It's actually being made illegal on thursday over here, but the whole media thing has blown it all out of proportion

Oh, your point is that it didn't cause the death and may have only contributed to it? Sorry, what an idiot I am - let's keep it legal!!!

But the point is that the signs are showing it is pretty harmful, not just in terms of death but mental side effects such as paranoia. I know first hand what that can do to the way you behave.

We've lasted this long without it, why be that bothered that it's becoming illegal?

Most kids are lucky and grow out of it, to concentrate on more important things. But the fact that some may die as a direct result, some may die as an after effect, some may die as a consequence convinces me that making it illegal is the right move.

Three links provided - can't you click them?
Let me ask you this; have you ever had a side effect from 'a drug' that has made you lock the doors, shut the curtains, and put a duvet over your head for a whole weekend whilst you think the only way out of such a horrible dark place is death?

what are the benefits from making it illegal exactly?

i will guarantee once you make it illegal the body count will rise substantially either through contaminates or through criminal violence........more than likely both

no it probably wont help him. Although will make it a lot more expensive to buy when its illegal.
However if the drug wasnt legal in the first place i highly doubt he would of started taking it/ selling it.

At the moment buying it online you know what you are getting, once they make it illegal, people will still buy it, yet it will be cut with all sorts making it more dangerous

Your facetious attitude isn't well placed.
A very serious subject with very serious consequences.
If you haven't been unfortunate to have the side effects I describe above then I' very glad to hear it. Believe me it changes you life forever. There is no 'getting over it'.
