Merlin passes & accomodation near legoland.

I am thinking of getting some merlin passes over the next month or so. We usually go to Spain in July / September but as I am due a baby in July and have my son start school on September we are looking at other stuff to do this summer. Has anyone had them before? We are going to use our Tesco points.
Also as we live in Birmingham I am looking at doing legoland & chessington together over a few days. It would be so much better if we could stay down there for a few days. Can anyone recommend any good accomodation. I don't mind caravans or chalets. I would camp but with a 4 yr old, 2 yr old and 3 week old it would be hard work if it was raining!!.
I have spotted some chalets for £300 for the week but was wondering if anyone could recommend anywhere or spot any good offers.

Thanks so much for your help
