    Microsoft Office & new Lappy......

    Hiya,
I have recently purchased a Toshiba laptop purely for surfing the net and for piccys, the odd letter etc.
Now it is only a basic and has Microsoft office on it but each time I use it it counts down how many more times I have left to use, down to 16 now. (if that made sense)

Will I have to purchase office or can I get it from elsewhere........if you know what I mean

As you work in education do you not qualify for a subsidised official version?

also if your hubby's force has an "enterprise" agreement with MS you should be able to get a very cheap home user licence.....

Office Home and Student edition is not alot to buy. Nothing compared to what basic office software used to be years ago.

there isnt a day goes by where customers don't tell me that it came free on their last computer and if its not part of Vista, why don't we just GIVE it away for free, after all they're spending all this money on a laptop.

then I have to explain that the spec's of laptops and what they're capable of have jumped up a lot in the past few years but the prices have down because a lot of the software which was once given away free or pre-installed is now left off or limited to trial offers.

but it doesn't seem to matter. Office should be given away free as people are used to having it bundled with computers, that were of a much lower spec and cost a lot more.
optional just mean "so I gotta spend another £60 quid, well why's that not advertised with your £299 laptop? I only brought £300"
