hmmm i've been working for 2 years now had a few credit card forms through the door but thought nope it's a fools game, anyway i'm quite warming to the idea what is the most credit i could get? this month i got £2045.96p for my wages and if i made a purchase of say £1000 would this be taken out my bank account as a lump sum or do i pay it in installments, thanks G

it's silly to do it if you dont NEED one, but if you do NEED one it's still silly to get one. I have no idea about the lump sum question... but don't do itttt... you always hear bad stories about credit cards, like banks ripping you off or people getting in to serious debt due to them!

    you can do either....
if you made a purchase, you would normally need to pay back at least 3% so at least £30.
Now is that £2045.96 net or gross?
It's not a fool's game if you pay in full and get a good cashback credit card.

hey yimmie...20 more posts for 1000.
    I'll start a thread...

imo its worth getting asda one as you get 2p off a litre petrol - pay off at end of month - no interest - get extra discount from 'george 'range - if you buy it - we only do it for discount on petrol

    5% cashback on some cards.....
2% cashback on supermarket shops with Barclays.

I know my OH's parents have a tesco one, they get TONS of tesco vouchers by doing so! (not that i know they get lots :whistling:)

Only get a credit card if you know that you can (& will) pay it off in full every month. The temptation is to just pay the minimum amout required, which means you will take literally years to pay off a small sum, as you will only just be covering the interest charge each month.

I think getting a credit card to establish credit is a must. I assume this is you first credit card so companies might be afraid to give you too high of a credit limit and it may be difficult to apply for credit cards that are normally difficult for people with low/poor credit ratings to get such as cashback cards or cards with low interest rates. But of course, always pay in full everytime you get the bill and your credit ratings will increase and you'll can apply for a much better credit card in the future.

Wish I earnt nearly £40k... Get one if you can pay it off every month, otherwise don't bother...

Pay it off each month if you can - or the total just grows. Most will give you 3 months interest free on puchases though.

I am about to swap mine to a Tesco card so I can accumulate clubcard points on all purchases. I have a balance on my existing card but it will give me 14 months interest free on the balance transfer.

You might want to check deals on moneysupermarket.com , uswitch or similar. That may give you some pointers!

Was just wondering, do you have to earn a certain amount or have a full time job to get a credit card?

you can get one whether u have a job or not. but of course, the more money you earn, the easier you can apply for a card and can apply a better card.

Consider going through Quidco if they have a Credit Card you want to apply for.

I've got 2 but when I do use them cos there is times they come in handy, then I always pay balance off in full.
Like for eg Travelodge saver rooms, you can only pay for them using a Credit Card only, least that was when I last booked a room.
They come in useful for other reasons too like I prefer to use them if purchasing from a non U.K site.
