I had my master copies of my wedding film recorded on mini DV tapes, the edited versions were given to myself on both VHS and DVD however the master copies remain in Mini DV format.

What I've been trying to find is and adapter of some sort (something similar to the DV adapter) so I can play these tapes - in which ever format possible.

I don't own a camera which takes these tapes, so any alternative would be greately appreciated.

Rep for all help,

Zak.

Hi Z
Your best bet is a cheap DV camcorder. You'll pick one up with firewire on evilbay for less than £30...Probably your cheapest, best and easiest solution tbh

* If you have copies, why do you NEED to play the tapes?

I have copies which have been heavily edited, the master copies is what the camera captured while it was filming so I'd want a copy of that as well.

What sort of camcorder would I need? I suppose I could ask family and friends if they have one which is compatible with these tapes.

I am willing to put them on DVD for you if you can't find a device. PM me.

Just a camcorder that takes 'miniDV'..mine is a Sony TRV33e.. there's loads still around.

Allways a good idea to keep the masters .Any make or model of a miniDV camcorder will be able to play your tapes back . I have a Panasonic GS11 and a Sharp WD450 and tapes are interchangeable between the two camcorders .Should you wish to transfer to PC you would need a Firewire card and software like Pinnacle which is extremely good for capture and basic editing and would transfer the work straight to DVD , of course , you have to have a DVD writer in your PC too. Alternativly , you could use a HDD/DVD recorder . I use a LiteOn model , this has a Fireport attached to the front on the recorder . You would record your footage to the built in hard drive , edit the footage , then write it back to disks . This allows you to make multiple copys for friends and relatives .Downside is ............you cannot add titles or background music tracks like you can on the PC . I too could put them onto DVD disks , but I see someone has already offered .
