    Mobile data useage advice needed

I am buying a mobile for a family member for crimbo and going for the Tesco deal giving 500mb a month.
I am at the bottom of the ladder when it comes to the latest mobiles and their functions and was wondering do mobiles generally come with a data useage log so that you can see how much you have used in the current month to stop them going over their limit.
Not sure which phone I'll be getting yet but just wondered generally do they count as the messages and call time do on most?

500mb should be enough for general everyday usage, like browsing most days, checking emails, facebook etc - I've got 500mb a month on an iPhone and never get anywhere close to that limit.

Most phones should in general be able to count the number of messages/data allowance used. However, another way to check it is to log onto your mobile account online, which normally gives you an accurate count for that point in time during the month, for all aspects of your allowances.

Yeah, cheers for that. Just spoken to a coupe of people at work and they check theirs (virgin) online. Will have to see if Tesco's offer that option.

There are also smartphone apps that monitor data use.

    What phone are you getting?

If it comes with Wifi then that helps a lot as it doesn't eat into the data allowance.
