Mobile for with best battery life - PAYG

    Banned
    Hi

I always use PDA mobile phone and just accept battery life is rubbish. I am looking for a phone that I want to use when hiking with my young son in the case of emergency. I want it to be very reliable and very simple so that if the worst should happen, my son would be able to switch it on and dial 999 or similar. I think there was an offer on HUKD for a T Mobile PAYG Samsung that would meet my requirements but I can't find it, but any suggestions would be great.

lol i used to have the rubbery nokia, we used to throw it at the wall

This is a combination of mobile phone and GPS. More expensive than a basic phone but it will send your GPS location via a text message. Could be useful when hiking if you can get a signal.

That's an interesting piece of kit. Of course the price is pretty much near to that of a handheld GPS unit and for £20 I could have a mobile phone too.

However there are kits available that are GPS only and when they are activated they send out a signal straight to emergency services. However they are not permitted on land YET. They are much more expensive though and onced used it costs to re-set them (i think).

There are also subscription kits like this

Again the above is not problem free.

For what I want it for I think you have have found an excellent product. The bit I do not know about is how good the actual phone is. Whilst the GPS unit will be fine for locating the exact place, the phone itself still needs to be good to receive a signal. Nevertheless it's a product I was unaware existed. Have some rep.

    EDIT:

That's also a very good price from Maplin's

Is it really what I need though?

Someone posted this link on another forum (can't remember where), it lets you search for mobile phones with particular features, including standby and talktime. Might be useful in helping you to find a phone with good battery life if you decide that is the easiest option rather than the GPS route:
