    Mobile phone help!

    Banned
I purchased a J700 mobile phone for my friend recently on ebay.

    It is unlocked.

She wants to use the internet on it.

    It keeps saying:-

    error: cannot resolve hostname

    What does this mean?

What SIM are your trying to use as I do believe the settings you will need to manually input are different for each provider.

    O2

Here is a guide to set it up for the J700

You might need to change some of the information there to this o2 specific information:

If you need to get settings again, text ACTIVE to 2020.

Haha, easier than manually putting it in if it works.

    Done this:-

Samsung J700 GPRS and WAP / Internet settings

You'll need to complete all steps for this to work.

The phone has a 4-way directional 'Navi' key which includes a centre select/menu button. 2 soft keys are either side of this.

To insert the required symbol (e.g. : / . @) into your settings, simply press the number '1' key until the symbol appears.

    1. Press the Menu button (Navi key).
    2. Highlight 'Browser' and 'Select' (left softkey).
    3. Highlight 'Profile settings' and 'Select' (left softkey).
    4. Highlight a clear profile and press 'Select' (left softkey).
    5. Highlight 'Profile name' and enter 'giffgaff WAP'.

When you have typed the information in, do not press 'OK' (Navi key) unless otherwise told to, as this will save the profile and send you back to the profile select screen. If at any stage you to this by mistake, then just select the profile again.

    6. Highlight 'Home URL' and change to 'http://giffgaff.com/mobile'.
    7. Highlight 'Bearer' and select 'GPRS only' by pressing the Navi key right.
    8. Highlight 'Proxy' and select 'Enable' by pressing the Navi key right.
    9. Highlight 'GPRS settings' and press the Navi key.
    10. Highlight 'Proxy IP' and enter '193.113.200.195'
    (dots will automatically be added).
    11. Hightlight 'Proxy Port' and enter '8080'.
    12. Highlight 'APN' and enter 'giffgaff.com'.
    13. Highlight 'Login ID' and enter 'giffgaff'.
    14. Highlight 'Password' and enter 'password'.
    15. Press 'Save' (left softkey).
    16. Press 'Save' again (left softkey).
    17. Press Back (right softkey).
    18. Highlight 'Current profile' and 'Select' (left softkey).
    19. Highlight 'giffgaff WAP' and press the Navi key to select.
    20. Press 'Back' (right softkey) 2 times to return to the standby screen.

What To Do Next: The GPRS WAP settings are now complete.

    **Now says Error: Network unavailable**
