Modern rock/indie album recommendations, please!

Am trying to fall back in love with music, so got myself a Spotify Premium account so I can listen to some new stuff offline with my iPod. So, now I need some recommendations...rock and indie preferred, but I'd also quite like some hip-hop recommendations too...

Anyone?

Already got Bright Eyes, didn't like Danananakroyd (like Delphic or Mew, I find the vocals a bit thin) but the others are all going on my playlists now...

..I'm loving this!!!

There are others, my OH sneaks bands up on me by playing their songs as background noise for weeks on end... He'll have a better idea if I've missed anyone important lol, I'll point him to the thread later

Airborne Toxic event, black kids.. Cajun dance party, the shins.. Los campesinos new album... The hours - see the light....editors - the back room. Klaxons. oooooh. cage the elephant.. Little man tate.

:w00t: imagine what I say about bands I don't like... as for songs and albums, most of them only have one album out as I only picked new bands really... Modest Mouse - Float On is an amazing song, the album Frengers by Mew is awesome (I don't think he has weak vocals, they're often soaring).

I tend to mostly listen to shoegaze\dream pop and swamp rock though, so you may disagree with some of my suggestions (and whether or not they are actually genres...) :-D

In terms of bands you can't go wrong with Interpol's first album (as someone mentioned earlier).

What kind of music/bands do you actually listen to?

So suprised no one has said
the pains of being pure at heart - best band I've seen live for ages
the joy formidable
errors

that shall do for now
ps seen quite a few you should really advoid on here

Name and shame! Name and shame!

Was going to mention POBPAH, but thought they might be too fuzzy for the OP - really wanted to see em live too. damn, haven't been to a gig in ages, I'm still mourning Lux Interior...

Shall check out the other two you've mentioned though

Guy and gals - thank you very much for all of these...I'll definitely add some more to my list. Loved driving in this morning listening to all your recommendations...I didn't dislike or skip any tracks I heard...very cool to know you lot provided me with suggestions and I'm liking them...who says the net tears people apart?!

Los Campesinos have that same rough, ready and frantic sound that I loved in the Libertines. Why? is a very weird sound - low rumbly voice and mad disparate music, but actually really drew me in. The singer from the Courteneers has a voice I really like, and Cajun Dance Party's tracks I heard sounded not unlike the Kooks, which isn't a bad thing...can't wait to have time to listen to more.

More than one person has mentioned the Gaslight Anthem, and I clearly need to give POBPAH a go, so I'll ad them pronto.

Yeah, I haven't been to a gig for ages either...I wanna see Jamie T live...but I do like a small venue. Might have to get down the Borderline to see any old band, just for the hell of it!!! Let's Tea Party are grabbing me too - they have a very small but eclectic catalogue...check 'em out on iTunes...

Well, I haven't heard anything for a couple of years that's really lit my fire. I loved Mr Hudson and The Library - which is from before his solo/Kanye West days. They were a great urban band with amazing melodies and great musicianship. I love Jamie T - there's something I love about scrappy, passionate music which I think he embodies. I do like strong beats and repetitive, trancy hooks - so I love things like Kasabian's first album...but I'm not so keen on what they've done since.

The problem is, because I sing in a covers band, I'm forever listening to classic stuff just to learn it for the band. I want to start listenting to music again for the love of it!
