Speaking to my friend from California last night and he was saying I'm going post office soon. I asked what for and he said something about some form he had to sign and its to do with how money and things are hard there. It was getting late and I wasn't really taking in everything he was saying about it.
I said well its kind of getting that way here in some ways.
Not that I follow economics and politics and such but I hear a bit on news, and hear how ppl are struggling to meet the mortage repayments, food going up etc and so on so I don't know a great deal about it all really.
Anyway link below to the website that dealing with it. just makes me think would government be giving anything out here for people ever...maybe not likely..

Don't forget that whilst the US Government is giving out tax returns, their national debt is going up by ]$1.67 billion per day, and currently stands at $9,447,288,742,655.84. That's $31,095.11 per person.

Kind of puts their few hundred dollar handouts into perspective.

It depends what side of the fence you are on.

The Republicans see it as a way of getting people to spend money, which in turn supposedly boosts the economy.

The Democrats just see the handouts as cynical 'bribes' to get people to vote Republican and ignore the debt crisis (don't forget this money isn't a gift in the real sense as it is just tax money being returned).

Basically there are two sides. Republican and Democrat. Each side has to pick one person from their side, who is going to run for President.

What's going on at the moment are called the Primaries. This is when representatives of each party fight it out to see who will be their Presidential candidate.

Normally the news here doesn't pay much attention to these because they are boring, but this time it is spiced up by the fact that the Democrats have two candidates who are very closely matched. On top of that, one is a woman and one is black. And if that wasn't enough, there is a high possibility that either one of them could be the next President. Through the whole Iraq War into the equation and it all becomes much more news worthy.

Once the Primaries are over and each party has chosen who they want to represent them, then you get the General Election, when the public get to vote for who they want to be the new President.

Like you say though, it goes on forever. ;-)

yeh hence taking too long,I've got no idea.thanks 4 explanation.

Neat explanations nightswimmer.

Starting in May, the Treasury will begin sending economic stimulus … Starting in May, the Treasury will begin sending economic stimulus payments to more than 130 million households. To receive a payment, taxpayers must have a valid Social Security number, $3,000 of income and file a 2007 federal tax return. IRS will take care of the rest. Eligible people will receive up to $600 ($1,200 for married couples), and parents will receive an additional $300 for each eligible child younger than 17. Millions of retirees, disabled veterans and low-wage workers who usually are exempt from filing a tax return must do so this year in order to receive a stimulus payment.

As you can see from the quote from the link, it is even called a stimulus payment - it's a cynical move to boost votes but will give a push to the US economy which is rocked by the credit crisis. The down side is that the debt is so massive that there will worse economic problems in the future unless growth increases and unemployment falls.
Workers in the US have less state support than similar groups in the country, through our tax system, although I'm very angry at the removal of the 10% tax band here.

According ]to this Times article, there is some evidence that the last time they did this there was a tiny benefit. ButI'm sure there are lots of articles out there stating the opposite. ;-)

As though his legacy were not tarnished enough already, there’s a real chance that if things don’t get better quickly he will be remembered for a presidency that botched a war and nearly lost an American city to a hurricane, neatly sandwiched between two slumps. It will make Herbert Hoover look like George Washington.

wow wouldnt it be easier, cuts down the paperwork if they just said to everyone who had to pay tax, we'll minus 600 bucks from your returns.

I don't understand the economics of it, but I think there is also the psycological factor involved. if you just pay less tax, then the money doesn't seem like an extra gift, it's just part of your everyday cashflow, so gets spent as such. In times of recession it's more likely to go on food or into savings, etc. Cautious spending. Howeverr, if you are given a cheque, it seems like a gift, a bonus, so you are more likely to spend it more frivolously on something you hadn't normally been planning on buying. SO that money gets spent in sectors of the market that normally would be hit harder during a financial crisis.

I'm no expert though, that's just me speculating.

Not as bad as us! Our national debt has tripled since labour came in. now standing at £1.3trillion.

£54,000 for every taxpayer :w00t:

The interest payments alone cost more than the entire defence budget (or should that be renamed to attack budget

When the Chinese take over, they'll have it pretty easy :whistling:
