The UK MoD is to conduct GPS jamming trials on 31 August - and we would like to hear from any driver or aviator using satnav in the area.

The GPS civil signal (L1) will be intentionally jammed on 31 August between 0800 and 1600 GMT, with the land-based jammer located within 0.5 NM of 531800N 0003236W - at Scampton, near Lincoln (postcode LN1 2ST for the satnav).

The area predicted to be affected by the omni-directional 100mW jammer will be within line-of-sight of the transmitter at ground level and out to 6 NM at up to 30,000 ft.

Ooooo, I used to live at RAF Scampton. It's a pity it was closed down, so much history. What a waste.

Why is this being trialled?

John

military use?

It's already in use on some vehicles, including the PM's car and outriders vehicles.

Not much point trialling on the M25, that gets jammed everyday :giggle:
