Go see a good IFA.

Rates and everything else changes day by day.

    They'll sort you out!

(Make sure you ask if they are checking the whole of the markets offers, remember who they offer & ask about ones you haven't heard about!)

I just fixed mine for 10 years at 5.59. I think you can get it lower for a shorter 'fix' but take into account any arrangement fee. They seem to have increased enormously in the last 5 years. As wantone says, go and see an IFA.

we've just changed companies, gone with HSBC fixed for 2 years @ 4.52% we … we've just changed companies, gone with HSBC fixed for 2 years @ 4.52% we were with halifax and the goto rate was 7.5% way above the bank of englands base rate.i did all the searching myself as the IFA wanted £2000.00 on completion

Do they really charge that much! My brother is my IFA and so didn't charge me anything - must remember to say thank you!

we re mortgaged in May, we took advise from an IFA but he couldn't find a decent rate even though he was whole of the market - in other words had access to all lenders, in fact he ended up telling us that banks and building societies especially are cutting out the IFA and offering better deals on a direct bases, which is what we did, we found a deal through the daily mail comparison site www.thisismoney.co.uk with the stroud and gloucester but it was only around for a week of so then pulled like most of the best deals,

Also the Sunday mail has a simple comparison chart for best mortgages.

BUT having said all that I would suggest you speak to your current lenders as there maybe no fees

dont you just hate it when you have to remortgage having bought at the peak -- i have seen virtually all of my deposit eroded. i want to live in a tent and not be at the whim of some bar-steward lender...

Id disagree in re IFA advice in this environment as most institutions are keeping the best deals for clients approaching them directly

Also the 4.52% has to be a typo - meant 5.52%?

just fixed for 5 years with nationwide at 6.2 %
not the lowest, but took this rate because no fees

Just mortgaged with Cheltenham and Gloucester at 5.89 best we could get!

Wemt to the wrong IFA or didnt ask the right questions.

Myself and 2 other friends have all recently used an IFA who searched the whole market after a brief interview about what we wanted.

Got lifetime trackers at 0.23% above BOE AND DIDN'T GET CHARGED A PENNY.

They get commission from the company whose product they sell, OR, you can opt to pay them to ensure total impartiality.

Funnily we went for the first option and within a few days the crunch hit and the offer, (and all similar ones) rapidly disappeared.
