Most Stupid Question by a Teenager

Do I have to take the tin foil thing off the pie before I put the pie in the oven?

And she's talking about wanting to move out and live independently.

Maybe she's put it in a microwave before and it didn't fare too well :-) .

Not really a stupid question; if you don't eat that dirt normally you wouldn't know.

Totally agree. The daughter's question is quite reasonable, unlike the cringeworthy, unfunny public humiliation of the OP.

I recall something that she used to call Maryland Chicken which certainly included bananas. I thought that I had successfully blocked what it tasted like from my memory but it's all coming back to me. oO

What is it these days with parents trying to shame their kids publically for attention? Good luck to the poor girl, no wonder she wants to move out.

No need to attack the op, I'm sure it was meant in humour. Why is everyone so serious?.

    because you can.

When I was left to my own devices I tried to use my parents dishwasher. I assumed you squirt fairy liquid on everything and shut the door and press go.
I was very wrong - most of downstairs was covered in soap suds when I got home!

Having never cooked a pie in my life (i hate pastry... yuck!) i wouldnt have a clue either.

I wouldn't know the answer to that question and I'm way older than a teenager. I had a friend at university who asked if she had to defrost frozen peas before you cooked them . She also blew the kettle up because it never occurred to her to check if it had water in it. Her mum had done everything when she was growing up. She is now a mum herself and has successfully raised three kids. I guess we all have to start somewhere.

Haha i did that... ran out of dishwasher tablets.
Put dishwasher on after tea, then in the middle of watching evening tv i noticed foam pouring in from the kitchen.

because they're hungry & don't know whether to take the foil tray off the pie before putting it in the oven

Op teach your child how to cook. It will be one of the best gifts you will give them.
If they make a mistake or ask silly questions, welcome them so they learn.

I was well into my thirties before I found out you couldn't cook stuff in an electric oven and use the grill at the same time. My cooking exploits are legendary.

cooking was my super power. Once I saw someone cooking, I could replicate everything they did. I can never mess with ingredients but just make the same dishes every time.

My cooking skills were needed in the summer for about 10 weeks, when my mum had
    knee surgery.

When I first got with my wife, the first meal she made was Burnt turkey burgers and raw chips...... I ate it

17 years on and I do the cooking!

Not if the pizza is uncooked previously. Raw ingredients on a pizza, place in oven, cooks the ingredients.

Don't get me wrong, my kids eat good healthy meals, we don't buy too much processed foods etc but in no way am I a natural domestic goddess! It's taken until I'm 30 to manage a decent poached egg and my children may not have made it this far in life if I didn't have access to google! I, without question of a doubt, have asked much more obvious questions than should the pie foil come off!

We had a brownie pie thing from icelands not that long ago and the instructions said something along the lines of " turn the pie in the foil (round not upside down)"

Depends on the what the instructions say.

Having said that I use a Halogen oven and have learned the best way to cook ready made (fresh or frozen) meat pies is to remove them from the foil, place on baking tray upside down and start cooking, around 10 minutes before it's due to be finish cooking turn it right way up, so that top crust bakes nicely.

Good for you and your kids
Tis the best thing that my b***** of a mother did for me before I left home at 18 and haven't looked back. By 12 years of age I could clean the house, cook the family meals, sew and iron - the only thing I can't do that a woman does is give birth (although I currently look about 6months pregnant ). By 16 I could use an industrial overlocker, tailor my clothes and many other things
The only thing I missed as a child was being a child and loved but hey ho at least I can look after myself

Yes if parents spent a little time teaching everyday things and yes if kids would give up their precious time to learn real life things then maybe we wouldn't get kids asking "obvious" questions and the parents taking the proverbial

I always leave them in the foil tbh.

One of my silly ex wives let out an ear-piecing scream from the kitchen. Her feet were badly scalded, apparently she misunderstood the 'stand in boiling water' directions. True story.
