MOT - any cheaper than £40 (Ilford, Seven Kings-Essex)

Does anyone know if MOTs are available for under £40 around in the Ilford, Seven Kings, Gants Hill area (Essex/London border) from a reliable garage (independent or chain)?

I got a voucher from British Gas "Your Home" magazine that reduces a Kwik-Fit MOT from the "usual" £44.15 to £26.49 but I'm not sure how "proper" their MOT will be. I'm a little worried that my 10-year old Saab will develop several "faults" and they will fail it saying there is a lot of work that needs to be done and then they will charge whatever they want to "fix" it. Of course, I won't be able to drive without MOT, will I? So, I'll have to get the work done!
What do you suggest and what is your opinion of Kwik-Fit's MOT and general services?

The problem is that some chains/garages consistently fail vehicles on MOT so they can then do the "necessary" repairs. Some Council-run MOT Testing Centres only do MOTs and do not do repairs so their mechanics have no incentive to fail vehicles un-necessarily.

Many garages offer discounts on MOTs to attract custom. I have used Kwikfit before without any problems, but up in Scotland.

Nationwide Auto Centre have a garage in Ilford and is offering 10% discount on MOT

hi there, have you not heard about the places run through the council, where they dont bnefit from giving you an mot as they dont do any aftercare(something like this).Check on Martins money expert site, they have a page about it,cant quite remember the details, worth a look in your area.Anything that doesnt get you ripped off afterwards, hope it helps

Nationwide are offering a FREE Spring Check (together with a FREE brake check) for AA Members (usually £19.99). I have booked in for this next week and maybe they may give me a few "pointers" as to how I can get a successful MOT if anything needs fixing......

Cher31e - I've already mentioned the MSE thread in my second post.....I couldn't find any Redbridge Council MOT Testing Centre. I've emailed them for information......
