MOT Failure?

The airbag light in my Renault Clio is constantly on, this is due to moving the passenger seat a lot (I think). Is this an MOT failure?
Also, has anyone had this problem and found how to fix it?
Thanks.

I don't think it's a testable item.

Disable it if you're certain it works.

we had the same thing-and failed the mot for it,altho I have subsequently been told that some testing stations WONT fail for it so Im not really sure. You could get a diagnostic run to turn the light off,or alternatively, could unclip the console and remove the bulb(which may not be strictly legal-lol)

my airbag light has been on for the last two years and nothing has been said at my MOT. Wouldn't worry..

I am reading mixed views on this on Google. I'd be very pleased if it wasn't an MOT failure though

Remove bulb for MOT, refit following MOT. Sort out airbag problem in own time.

my partners cleo does this, she had her MOT last thursday and that isnt a fail, not sure what the problem is as she didnt ask ( i read online its a minor problem with some wiring in some models of the cleo )

We had a similar problem on sons Peugeot and it was caused by connection under driver's seat getting fouled when seat was constantly moved backwards and forwards causing a bad earth. Google the problem and you'll find solutions (like disconnecting and reconnecting under the drivers seat).

I cant see how this can be a fail as it doesnt technically make the car unroadworthy

just asked friend who is mot inspector, cannot fail on this at moment, though could change in next year or two.

I think I would be complaining about it failing on that

Thats a pretty good guide to what is checked

How old is your Renault. Usually airbags need to be replaced every 10 years due to the bag containing a powder which doesnt allow it to open full and the pyro etc. Trust me you do not want to remove the bulb and forget about it. I studied the airbag and how it works, do not be in a situation where the car is left dangereous. It may just be a fault somewhere on the car. I suggest you have a diagnostic done, but not by the idiots at renault, but a renault specialist (trust me if you go to Renault they will just tell you the fault and then the start of expensive part, the specialist will tell you if it is triggered by something else etc... they have mroe knowledge that the guys at renault)

Passenger seat being moved all the time........airbag light on.....Could it possibly be you and your fine lady being a little too amarous in the car....lol

yep, Im an MOT tester/mechanic as well & as it stands at the moment the SRS/airbag light staying illuminated or not illuminating through its test sequence isn't an mot testable item at the moment, but from January 1st 2012 it will be.
