MOT in West London area needed

My car is due an MOT an I wanted to get it done at a cheapish reliable place.
I've read the offers for £20 off the mot via autotrader and 33% off mot for aa members (which i am).

However ive also read that getting it done at the local council who ONLY do mots is much better as they give an inbiased conclusion of the tests (because they dont do repairs) and my local one does it for £53 which I think its quite a lot!

what do you guys suggest ? Go with a local mot test centre for around £30-35 or council test centre @ £53

oh, my post code is TW18 so around there would be what I need.

My experience is that garages running adverts for their 'cheap' MOTs are very good at finding faults - use the council service or better still a trusted recommendation.

For example my girlfriend took her Ford Ka to an SE London garage offering MOTs for £25 in the local paper. It failed on emissions, so they fitted a new lambda sensor at a cost of £100ish (it was a few years ago so don't remember exact cost). After a lot of revving they said it just passed but that it would definitely need a new CAT next year - made out like they were doing us a real favour!

Took it to another garage the next year (£50ish) and emissions passed easily.

In previous years, ive found ads in te newpapers with discount vouchers ... took it in and theyve passed it. The problem is the place I used to go to closed down (grrr) and the last one i went to charged me £20 just to ADJUST the lights so that it would pass. I either paid tham £20 or adjusted it myself and got the MOT done ALL again ! Thieves !
