Moto G screen cracked today, what are my best options now in terms of a replacement?

So, I don't know how, but my screen was working fine 20 minutes ago, I put it in my pocket and just when I went to use it, the screen has a small crack on the bottom which has made the screen go all weird (lines and such), but things happen, and now I'm just wondering where I go from here?
I bought it from Tesco in January 2014, it's a 1st gen model, I still have the receipt, I've been using a case and a screen protector from day 1, my warranty should still be in tact but do I go to Tesco for the warranty, or to Motorolla? Anyone else been in the same situation?
And also, how much does it cost for a screen replacement these days?

Or are there any insurance plans I could get a work around with? I've never had a cracked screen on a phone before so I need a little help! Any help is appreciated, cheers, and Merry Christmas to all!

A cracked screen is not a manufacturing fault (in most cases) and unless you can find evidence that there is such a fault (doubtful) you'll have to either claim on your home insurance (or phone insurance if you took out the cover).

From re-reading your question it seems you want to scam an insurance claim - and that would mean higher premiums for your failure to get insurance cover when you purchased the phone.

Some insurance companies actually let you get cover with a broken phone, they give you a higher signing fee and you have to sign a minimum 12 month contract, although many of them are local small phone shops so there's a risk in that. Please don't immediately presume ridiculous scenarios. This is 'Ask', not 'Misc.'

Maybe buy the screen and try put it together yourself? Getting it repaired would probabaly cost near the price of the phone so this is a time for you to experiement

Thank you, I might just have to do that. A replacement screen costs £20 odd, so it's worth a shot I guess.

Yup it could come in handy for an expensive device gives you confidence, This is what I am going to do when I get a cheap device thats cracked :). If you buy it from eBay message the seller before and send a picture and device model just incase a wrong one is sent, Good luck and use youtube

check youtube I'm sure there will be plenty of guides on how to do this yourself

my daughter has the same phone and the screen cracked about 2 weeks ago. similar situation to you as I saw her with it and she put it in her dressing gown pocket and when she took it out few minutes later the screen was cracked.
maybe it is a fault with them but can't see us having any luck proving it though.
I'm ordering one of eBay to change it I've done a few other phones before so this should be similar.

Is it a fiddly process? Is there a chance I might mess up the phone all together? I'm going to go to Tesco tonight and give it a shot and claim warranty, I'll most likely come back empty handed but it's no biggie. I'm going to buy a replacement screen though, I'll come to you for help if I struggle (after you fit your daughters) haha

Did a little research and found out that you can also buy the whole front housing with the screen already installed, only around £25, I might just do this as it gets really tricky after you try and take the screen off of the front housing, or is my logic completely incorrect at this point?? lol

Motorola were fixing screens for free first time around don't know if they still do it.

I heard about that however they never admitted to it! They said they was going to charge something like £60 but done it for free once you had already sent the handset. It was a risk though as they charge to get your handset back. This was also a while ago!

Moto G is no good for a screen repair last time I checked. Srceens were in the US and around $100. I'd sell as spares and buy another phone.

I've seen a few including the front housing for £25 on Ebay? What is wrong with them exactly? Thank you.

Oh really, china must have caught up and started to make screens for them. Last time I checked they had none reasonably priced.

Nothing should be wrong with them. I recommend just checking out a couple of YouTube tutorials and if you're confident then go for it!

There's two options, buying a screen with the front housing already attached to it, eliminating half of the effort for a few extra quid, or go for just the screen where I have to attach my front housing on to it. I think I'm going to go with option 1 but I've heard that the front speaker is very fiddly and if you don't get it right, it will rattle when you put the phone back together.

So I've just gotten off of livechat with Motorola, the guy gave me instructions on how to send it to Motorolla and hope for a replacement, he also mentioned that I should head back to Tesco and ask them first as they could give a refurbished unit on the spot! So I'll be heading there in a few hours.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Yeah mate you want it with the screen attached they are called digitizers but it's still tricky as you have to take your LCD screen of your old one and fit it to the new digitizer
